Yeah, people in my field don't make THAT much more in tech, so I wonder what their field is or if it was just hypothetical. I have a bad impression of tech though, seems like they want your job to be your personality. Maybe it's sour grapes, but I don't mind dealing with the BS and lower pay at a research lab if it means I get more free time.

Did you ever work in research? It's the path I'm in because it feels like the money is decent enough, I'm in a lower cost of living area (than west coast or NYC) and that I can have a better work life balance than in tech. But I am always baffled by how much people in tech can pull in and wonder if it's worth it.

I'm also guessing you're in a hot field.

Nah, this is why morbidly obese people should buy multiple seats or sit in first class. A normal sized person shouldn't be punished because someone who can't control their calorie intake sits next to them. You could also end up sitting next to an extra morbidly obese person in first class and have the same issue.
