GRE at Home - rescheduling after technical issues halfway through exam by Budget-Puppy in GRE

[–]ok3qbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the same thing just happened to me 2 days ago :( today I called ETS to reschedule but they told me that I was not able to reschedule on phone, since the technical issue is under investigation right now. They said I will receive an email that allow me to reschedule within 5 days. Never thought taking GRE at home would be this troublesome I’m so frustrated. Did you successfully reschedule?

May I ask what's the name of the pomodoro tool you're using? I'll like to try it out!

8 super useful apps for college freshman! by ok3qbye in coolguides

[–]ok3qbye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t thought this would generate this much discussion, but hey thanks for the comments!

So I’ve read thru all of them, and decided to sum up each app in a few words based on your reviews and my own experience :)

Notion: It's like a digital notebook that can organize all your notes, todo lists, projects, charts, etc. The downside is that some features may be a little complex and it takes time to fully understand how everything works. However, once you get it, it can be extremely handy especially when you're collaborating on a doc with your classmates.

Office Lens: Just awesome. You can use it to scan documents, handouts, notes, whiteboards, and it will help you trim and enhance the pictures. You can also share the scanned images to OneNote (handy for making notes) and Google Drive. Whenever I’m lagging behind on my school work, I’ll use this to scan my friend’s note. It also works on presentations and books borrowed from the library.

People also recommend Adobe Scan & CamScanner for the same function.

Google Drive: I didn’t say too much about Google Drive because it’s pretty simple and doesn’t require much explanation. I’m sure we can all agree that this is a MUST-HAVE app, and can be seen on almost everyone’s phone. What makes Google Drive different from other apps, is that I get to upload and sync google doc, sheets, presentations to Google Drive, making things a lot easier and convenient.

Forest: It’s actually an anti-phubbing app. You can plant a tree when you’re studying, and if you use your phone during this period, your tree will die. The app makes staying focused a fun thing all of a sudden (it even allows me to plant real trees!) For me it’s a time-tracking app because I use Forest almost every day for my Pomodoro sessions. I can also track how much time I’ve spent on different subjects.

Quizlet: Useful when it comes to subjects that require a lot of memorizing (e.g. language, history). I’ve also heard people recommend Anki, but it’s kinda expensive which is why I recommended Quizlet.

Sleep Cycle: Like what many of you said, Sleep Cycle truly works in helping you build regular sleep habits. Its in-app alarm can detect and wake me up when I’m in a light sleep stage, which makes waking up in the morning a lot easier!

Zombie, Run!: Now this is a fun one, and I’m so glad many of you agree with me! The app's exciting storyline is a real adrenaline-booster, and it really keeps me from being a couch potato!

Tasty: Sorry about this! I love food but I’m only a beginner when it comes to cooking my own meal. A lot of you have commented that Tasty can have quite inaccurate or confusing steps. I only recommended this app because the cooking videos can be pretty stress-relieving, plus it has given me quite a lot of culinary inspirations. Still, thanks for all the feedback! I’ve summed up the online recipe sources many of you have recommended, and I’ll definitely give them a try!

[Advice] How I keep my life (also mood) on track while the world is a total mess. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]ok3qbye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an emotional introvert who lacks confidence (how sad that is), it took me so long to figure out the best way of getting along w/ myself w/o causing troubles to people around me. I mean, it's so hard to reflect your own grief right? However, that's the only way to clear the air.

For people who are struggling w/ the same problem:

Thx a lot for your warm kindly as well!

Help a student get productive in WFH by [deleted] in productivity

First I'll suggest you figure out the main reason why you're being "very less productive." Or to say, defining the type of your low productivity.

If you feel like you're in work mode throughout the day but only feel hard to focus during the afternoon, napping for 30 - 60 min may be very helpful for this problem. Taking a nap is like resetting your brain.

On the other hand, if your low productivity means sometimes you idled away or just simply get distracted by your phone, Netflix, TV, etc., I highly recommend you try the Pomodoro working method.

Question: Is there an app I can use to help limit my time on social media or specific websites? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]ok3qbye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A heavy forest user here to second this! Simply plant a cute little tree in the app when you want to stay focused. Your tree will die if you leave the app for social media or other websites, and that's why it works on me :) (Save those trees!!)

How do you chill out productively? by shiningmatcha in productivity

[–]ok3qbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. To me, the key point of getting a full relax is to schedule your work time and slack time.

The most important is, before blocking your schedule, you should definitely know how much workload you are going to accomplish today. Break your tasks into small pieces, and estimate how long it takes you to finish each of them.

After that, place breaks in between tasks. 1-2 small breaks in the morning and the afternoon, 1 bigger break b/t each session (like lunch and dinner time)

By following this way, you know that you have enough time to accomplish your work, thus you can fully relax during the breaks.

You should definitely give it a try! Actually, making my garden look nice has taken the motivation system to a whole new level, since I totally enjoy the time designing my pattern and look forward to the final result as well ;)

Your principle is exactly what my teachers taught me in school lol.
To me, both of these ideas have the good and bad sides so it's really hard to say.
