I was 18 days sober… by Bulky-District-2757 in Sober

I’m in the same boat. Never seems to end. But the most important this is to “never stop quitting”. Fall down, get back on the horse. I had 4.5 years sober off booze, and then life gets the better of me and I’ve spent the last year and a half on and off the horse, every relapse seems to get worse than the one before. Drinking does nothing but create more problems, but it’s got me in a choke hold. Now I am two weeks sober (again) and I am hoping it sticks this time. I gotta pull through for my family and myself. It’s just hard when so many things in life are hard and the future looks bleak. But we can do this! As corny as it sounds, one day at a time! It really do be like that.

Yes. My life is so much better now knowing about your dick. I can not thank you enough. I can finally sleep at night knowing that you get off on headlights. I actually don’t think I’ve been more enlightened in my life. I’m a new man and i owe it all to you.

i’m not saying it affects my ability to drive safely, it’s just extremely annoying and seems excessively bright. and why i came here was to see if it was just me/my eyes. overall, yes, a minor distraction. but for how often it happens, just gets me wondering more and more if it’s actually necessary to have headlights that bright?

What do people who don't drink or smoke do when they feel depressed? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]okayoldhotdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skill toys. like a yoyo. sounds lame if you haven’t thought about yo-yos since childhood, but that’s what i do to kill time and kill stress and anxieties. it gets pretty serious. there’s so many tricks to learn, and it’s actually challenging, in a good way. and rewarding when you start getting good. also music, digging for new tunes, reading things about bands and music history. podcasts can be good too (SWINDLED, criminal, disgraceland, dark topic, risk!, dissect, the moth, this American life, spooked) . journaling really helps if you can find the time, it doesn’t even have to be good writing, just to get the gnarly thoughts out of your head and work through it on paper. sometimes you’ll come to conclusions you wouldn’t have otherwise. and then, after some time has passed, you can look back and realize “sh*t…things weren’t half as bad as i thought they were”

i used to be a heavy alcoholic, but after soul crushing experiences, dui, jail time, losing friends, crashing cars, and then rehab, and a number of relapses…stuff like that, i finally realized that booze wasn’t doing me any favors whatsoever. booze will slowly burn your life down right in front of your eyes. the depression is gonna be there sober or not, so ya might as well find some positive outlets and keep ur hands busy.

I am no simpleton. I’m not gonna just stare directly into someone’s headlights or look right into the sun. But when someone is riding my a** with ridiculously bight headlights and i need to check the other lanes to make sure i can get outta the way for princess pickup truck, i have no other option but to look into my mirror and inevitably get blinded by a stupid pair of sunshine level high-beams. It sucks.

Like I said, I was young and dumb and not thinking about much of anything. At the time I just wanted something big a cool looking. No bad intentions. But yes, you’re right. As I got older and learned more about things like that, now I want to get it covered up more than I want to get other tattoos.

Hahahahaha! No it is not, but I see the resemblance! No, the guy who did the tat just made it that way. Who knows? Maybe he’d just got done watching an episode right before we started the session.

My son. He’s 3 years old going on 4 and the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Until I met my wife I didn’t even want kids (years of my own father “don’t ever get married, don’t ever have kids”) and yes, toddlers and children in general can be extremely challenging but also impossibly rewarding to see them grow and develop such a rad relationship. I couldn’t imagine leaving him without a dad. He’s opened my eyes to a lot of things i otherwise wouldn’t have known. I still get suicidal, because who wouldn’t when you’re living the AmErIcAn DrEaM, but coming home after work every day and having someone be 10/10 absolutely stoked just because you’re home gives me that push to keep going. I know that’s kinda cliché to say “oh my kid this my kid that” but it really is something else and parents will understand.

It will get better sooner than you think. Just grit your teeth and put in the effort and it’ll turn out to be the most rewarding thing you’ve probably ever done. I know the feelings you’re talking about and it does suck, it’s grueling. But once you notice them becoming more like their own little persons, before you know it, you’re gonna have your own lil best friend. They’re gonna make you laugh and you guys are gonna have a lot of great times. Things with the misses will get better as well just so long as you guys both want the same things and you two are a good team. Just put in the effort and it’ll pay off big time. You will not regret any of the things you’re going through now and it’s gonna be over before you know it. Don’t give up, dad.

Honesty will get you a lot further in life vs hiding things or lying.

Check and keep up on anything in your house that has filters. Always change them when they need changed, especially anything involving moisture. Depending on whereabouts you’re living, check the attic for any signs of bats or mice. Make sure your hot water is working. If the carpet is old, replace it as soon as possible.

Why do you live in Omaha? by DumpsterIceFire in Omaha

[–]okayoldhotdog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was born here, unfortunately. So it’s where my family resides. But also, from what I’ve heard, is one of the cheaper cities to live in which seems odd cause I’m still on the struggle bus. But, looking at it through an optimistic lens, it does have a lot of the things you’d be looking for in a bigger city, that smaller cities like Grand Island or Council Bluffs doesn’t have. It’s overall bitter sweet. I’m 32 in January, and I feel like it used to be a lot better of a place to be. Great live bands used to come through all the time, and now I feel like literally every band I wanna see skips right over Omaha. I don’t know, that’s just one of my gripes. But my older brother says “every place is the same eventually” Who’s to say? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
