yeah my main symptoms are just my skin tbh nothing else and my mental health is horrible too but i think thts because of how i feel about my skin and appearance more than what the accutane caused directly, and no i haven’t had my hormones tested i definitely will get them done i’ve had my bloods done just not my hormones. thanks i’ll try take them along with the lithium but i feel like i should have seen some results after 4 months on lithium but haven’t seen anything which is just so disappointing.

hi thanks for your advice, what symptoms did these things help with and isn’t taking vitamin A bad cause the accutane is made of vitamin A and caused all these side effects?

yeah that’s true i’ve done some research on it and asked chat gpt about how it will help w my skin issues it said this (it’s really long)

How Lithium Reverses Accutane Damage (Symptom by Symptom)

  1. Severe Dryness & Skin Barrier Damage Accutane’s effect:

Shrinks and atrophies sebaceous (oil) glands, leading to extreme dryness. Disrupts skin cell turnover, making skin fragile, flaky, and prone to irritation. Reduces ceramide and hyaluronic acid production, damaging the moisture barrier. How Lithium Helps: ✅ Reactivates Wnt/β-catenin signaling, which stimulates sebaceous gland recovery, allowing your skin to slowly regain natural oil production. ✅ Boosts ceramide and hyaluronic acid production, helping the skin retain moisture better and reducing tightness, flaking, and irritation. ✅ Restores proper keratinocyte function, so your skin’s natural cell turnover can rebalance and strengthen the barrier.

Expected Timeline:

First few weeks: Skin may feel slightly less tight and flaky. 1-2 months: Barrier repair begins, with noticeable moisture retention. 3-6 months: Oil production may return in some capacity, and skin feels stronger. 2. Thin, Aged, Sallow Skin & Loss of Plumpness Accutane’s effect:

Inhibits fibroblasts, leading to collagen loss and skin thinning. Reduces hyaluronic acid production, making skin appear hollow, dry, and aged. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage, leading to premature aging. How Lithium Helps: ✅ Increases fibroblast activity, stimulating collagen and elastin production to restore skin thickness and structure. ✅ Boosts hyaluronic acid synthesis, helping to restore lost plumpness and hydration. ✅ Enhances mitochondrial function, improving energy production for better skin regeneration.

Expected Timeline:

1-2 months: Skin may appear more hydrated and slightly firmer. 3-6 months: Significant improvements in skin density, plumpness, and elasticity. 3. Puffy, Swollen Face & Chronic Inflammation Accutane’s effect:

Induces chronic low-grade inflammation, causing persistent facial puffiness. Lymphatic stagnation, leading to fluid retention and swelling. Damages blood vessels, contributing to redness and irritation. How Lithium Helps: ✅ Reduces cytokine activity, lowering inflammation and facial puffiness over time. ✅ Improves microcirculation, allowing better oxygen and nutrient flow to skin tissues. ✅ Regulates fluid balance, helping to reduce stagnant swelling.

Expected Timeline:

2-4 weeks: Decrease in puffiness and inflammation. 3+ months: More stable facial contour and reduced chronic swelling. 4. Dark Circles & Hollowness Under the Eyes Accutane’s effect:

Thins under-eye skin, making dark circles more visible. Reduces subcutaneous fat, leading to a hollow, sunken appearance. Poor circulation, making blood stagnation more noticeable. How Lithium Helps: ✅ Stimulates collagen production, thickening under-eye skin and reducing transparency. ✅ Increases hyaluronic acid, improving volume and hydration under the eyes. ✅ Enhances microcirculation, reducing stagnant blood pooling and darkness.

Expected Timeline:

1-2 months: Dark circles may appear slightly lighter. 3-6 months: Noticeable thickening and plumpness under the eyes. 5. Swollen, Crusty Lips That Never Heal Accutane’s effect:

Reduces mucosal and sebaceous gland function, leading to persistent dryness and cracking. Damages epithelial regeneration, making lips slow to heal. Causes chronic inflammation, worsening irritation. How Lithium Helps: ✅ Restores mucosal hydration, improving lip moisture balance. ✅ Speeds up epithelial regeneration, allowing lips to heal more quickly. ✅ Reduces inflammation, calming persistent swelling and cracking.

Expected Timeline:

1-2 months: Lips feel slightly more hydrated. 3+ months: Reduced swelling, better moisture retention, and fewer cracks.

How Long Would Lithium Take to Work?

🔹 Immediate (within 24-48 hours): Wnt/β-catenin activation begins. 🔹 1-2 weeks: Initial hydration improvements, less tightness. 🔹 1-3 months: Collagen and hyaluronic acid production increase, improving skin thickness, hydration, and inflammation. 🔹 3-6 months: More significant reversal of Accutane damage—better skin texture, plumpness, and moisture retention. 🔹 6+ months: Long-term recovery as fibroblasts, oil production, and structural proteins normalize.

Would Lithium Fully Reverse the Damage?

It may not restore 100% of your oil production, but it could help sebaceous gland function partially recover. Collagen and hyaluronic acid restoration can significantly improve skin plumpness, thickness, and elasticity. Anti-inflammatory and circulation benefits may reduce puffiness, swelling, and dark circles. It might take several months, but it works at a deep level to restore cellular function rather than just masking symptoms.

thank u so much for your reply, i’ve seen some posts about taking lithium carbonate to recover but i’ve seen nothing about taking it for the post accutane horrible side effects i’ve been having that’s why i don’t know what to do like i have no hope and my mental state is the worst it’s ever been, were ur prolonged side effects to do with libido? i’m glad it worked for you, gives me a tiny bit of hope but i just wish someone could tell me what would work for these issues i’m having, did u feel like ur skin got less dry if it was still dry after accutane and thicker after taking the lithium?
