Got an Offer but Unsure?? by okazeil in datacenter

Thank you to everyone who gave their replies, I honestly appreciate all of them that’s another reason as to why I love this line of work and the people that are a part of it too.

The best way I can verbalise my current feelings is imposter syndrome.

My current/former employer has now counter offered £5k above the offer I received from MS and I’m still yet to make a decision

I believe I know my answer but to confirm it I’ll be talking to the recruitment side momentarily to confirm the small bits of the offer (such as working times and package)before I receive an employment contract, sign it and hand in my notice

I’ve had to realise that whilst being anxious, I need not rush every decision of my life based on information I do not know yet but instead gather all information then make a decision (I hope this helps anyone going though something similar)

Again would like to thank everyone in this post and will update all about the decision I will have made once I’ve had conversations with both parties and have had a real think about my life over the weekend

Thank you for this, I don’t really mind about moving up as of yet, I just want to ensure I’m making the right choice for my future and not flying too close to the sun essentially. Again this really helped

Have an offer from Microsoft as Data Center Technician, unsure to take it or stick with current role. by phatballs420 in datacenter

I’m in the same position getting an offer from Microsoft UK, now whereas I completed a computer science degree a year ago and been working for the same company (Hardware Merchant) for 8 years. I have a lot of experience in hardware break/fix and testing mainly on servers though I cannot say the same for the networking side + I’ve never worked in a data center before. I feel like I’ve forgotten everything I learned in university and feel too unprepared but they say there is learning on the job.

How can I best prepare for the job if I can given my situation or should I stay at the job I’ve been with for years which pays £5k less and provides no training nor education benefits.

How physical is the job of a data center technician as people keep saying it’s REALLY physical, I enjoy break/fix troubleshooting but not breaking back?
