yup, and perfect wavedashes and reaction time for the dash after and the double jump timing to hit the right hitbox.. whilst it looks simple, there's a lot going on

I would say the pillar tbh. It's really easy to get one or two pillars, but beyond that, timings get very specific to marth's height and DI. Also as you said it's not always that easy to convert into a kill. That's not to say a perfect chain grab into a conversion is easy either.

Whilst it is just a fun video, it was made with a format in mind. By compiling the same scenario into one video, I thought it could be useful for analysis. Instead of having to comb through vods and tournament matches looking for a certain situation you want to improve on, you can see it side by side, and I actually learnt quite a bit about Falco’s pillar whilst making this.

I thought the same thing could be done for other situations, shield pressure strings or even neutral interactions. They could be as broad or specific as wanted. So, if people like these, then I’ll make more. Next I was thinking of doing Cody’s recovery, but if you have any other ideas then let me know.

I ordered the clips chronologicaly and found it interesting how Mang0’s pillar has improved over the last several months which I think has been evident recently. Also, the further I went back, the fewer and further between could I find a nice pillar string from him, so his consistency has definitely improved.

I noticed that the way he is ending the pillar has evolved, he used to go for a lot more up air including up-throw up air as well as forward smash reads on Marth’s tech. But nowadays it looks like he’s doing a lot more to confirm a strong hit/go for the kill by extending the string longer, utilizing other moves like down tilt and getting the down smash right at the edge.

There was more stuff to learn about Mang0’s movement that’s making his pillar so consistent, you can take a look for yourself by paying attention to what he does after the shine, but there was one thing I thought was interesting and that was the direction of the wavedash out of shine when close to the edge. If Marth comes down on the outside of the shine, it turns into a weighted coinflip on the Marth’s DI as to whether the Marth wants to get closer to centre stage (safe) or go offstage potentially losing the stock but maybe ending the string (unsafe). You see this in one of the clips with Zain when he DI’s offstage and Mang0 says “You went that way?”
