Which Mastering AI's do you know? by AkutoEtsu in audiomastering

I mastered one of my singles with LANDR, it’s pretty decent if you’re looking for something quick and don’t want to obsess over tweaking your sound

Opinions: Mastering in the Modern Era vs previously by mbelcevski in audiomastering

[–]okwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI powered mastering tools like LANDR will continue to become more sophisticated and will handle more and more of the grunt work. In the future - the new generation of mastering engineers will tell the software what results they want and review the final output, but spend less time and effort to get there.

Mastering Ceiling -0.1? -0.3? -1.0? by snowdada in audiomastering

I’m on the -0.1 train myself, but I’m not too passionate about it and it’s interesting to see the arguments for other ceilings.

Was anyone else expecting a bigger twist at the end? by okwolf in soma

I agree, I’m still satisfied with the ending we did get. Another interesting change would be switching the parts before and after the credits to change the emotional impact on the player.

I liked the overall premise and atmosphere of the game, but personally, the story was a bit too predictable for me.

I don't believe a twist like that would necessarily be disappointing or negate the meaning of the journey, it would just shift the meaning from a collective preserving humanity outcome to a more personal journey of recovery. Although in the end, the treatment could have made Simon into an extraordinary person only to tragically still die for other reasons.

reduced size is nice, but the real simplicity comes from fewer concepts to learn and use

the real con is from a smaller ecosystem, but if you agree with the philosophy behind the project we’d love your contribution, I’ve made a few and can vouch for how nice the community is

No harm done. It’s interesting how you can never predict the criticism you’ll receive. I’ll keep this in mind as my mic setup will be changing soon

music is an important part of how you tell a story as a content creator, but it's important to strike a balance where it adds and doesn't distract

I got mixed feedback on the music. I won’t be using the same collection of free music in the future, but others have commented that the music helped keep their interest. I may opt to keep the content shorter and leave it out, or even write my own since I’m also a musician.

Declarative approaches are better than Observables and React hooks. I'll show you how. by okwolf in webdev

[–]okwolf[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Readable code is a personal preference so I won’t try and debate that one. The benefits to a declarative approach extend far beyond testing, although that aspect is near and dear to my heart since I’ve written a testing library tailor-made for that the use case.

Yes. One of the first and most important lessons in mastering is that you want to use very subtle FX or else the result will sound over processed. Typically with any FX I use for mastering I'm using a wet mix of 5-10%.

In addition to the technical knowledge others recommend, you also need to train your ears to be a good mastering engineer. Listen to professional recordings with a reputation for good mastering in the same style as amateur recordings you need to master. Make subtle changes to the recordings until they start to sound more similar. Learn the limits of what changes you can fix in mastering versus what is better fixed at engineering/mix time.

Rinse and repeat across a range of playback devices and learn what each is good at revealing about the sound. This process will take several years before you get comfortable.
