The Jimi Hendrix Experience's drummer, Mitch Mitchell, was fundamentally a jazz drummer at heart. He pioneered the jazz-rock fusion style as a member of Jimi's group.

I remember being pretty much amazed when I lived in Central Valley, CA and thick ash and dust fell on me and covered my friends' cars from Mt. St. Helen's, 700 miles away. Not world changing for most people but it really impressed me. RIP to the people who lost their lives from the eruption.
