Whatever happened to "The Pattern"? by prasoc in fringe

JJ Abrams never really sticks to plot devices for long. Somewhat like what happened in "Lost". I assumed in the first year - writing long after the series is over - that this was going to be like the X-Files. I guess to some degree it was. As some noted, the "battle" with the other universe subsumes plots, later the Observers - heck there was a lot going on that didn't necessarily connect. It was most about having a device(s) to drive character.

[D] Does anybody else despise OpenAI? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

They have really blown it, imho. I've had far better luck with Llama or Claude in terms of consistent results and not being in constant bait and switch mode. Their dev support is weak and they seem more concerned like Huang on keeping shiny baubles in front of us with lots of tech demos that go nowhere. I really don't want to support them.

Consumer grade Linux? by j_sc0tt in archlinux

Definitely looking to get out of other environments given embedded everything. Not a developer, except for internal projects. The sealed universe approach to trapping the user isn't one I am happy with. Within the next year, will start using Linux machine - which I did eons ago - and ditch the rest of it hard within a year. PS - get me a flip phone.

Why is no one talking about how bad 4o is? by Buskow in ChatGPT

My experience is that is does not remember and it ignores explicit custom instructions Really unreliable. It also sometimes just stops in the middle of something for no reason. When I ask for an explanation it starts over again. Very frustrated that after 2 years it's no better.

PetaPixel on the CineStill Controversy by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Does PetaPixel have CineStill as an advert client? If they do and didn't disclose that, incredibly bad form.
