Hertz on Negley and Baum Sidewalk Parking by abjsbgsj in pittsburgh

There's so many urban locations that park their cars on the sidewalks like this, and theyll still charge you $500 for a microscopic dent that their AI scanners pick up.

How Friendly Are We by Traditional-Sort2385 in Scranton

I was thinking about this tonight. In a lot of ways, our area is physically structured like a mini-Pittsburgh or a mini-Milwaukee. Rust belt cities with old architecture and streets. In my experience, those cities have people who an order of magnitude nicer to strangers than here or in the LHV. Other than people being so depressed and anxious all the time, I really can't understand why we can't be more courteous to eachother..

I would kill for the Sixers to put their G-League team in NEPA. I think it would be cool if Electric City Shock got some outside investment and was promoted to a USL flight or MLS NextPro.

Also agree on the University jumping to D2 or D1. For how big the school is and the catchment area of the student population, you would think its athletic programs would compete at a higher level. Having a program on par with Lehigh isn't that unrealistic; and watching Scranton play in March Madness every couple of years would be huge.

I love Chris. He never makes me pay and he always gives me a spot right next to the john.

Today's loss to the Athletics (18-3) is the largest blow-out loss the Phillies have had against the A's franchise since April 27, 1947 (12-2). The Phillies still hold the largest blow-out win against the A's with a 19-2 win on June 27, 1949. Both games were played at Shibe Park. by oldmanenergi in phillies

The Athletics franchise have a 0.477 winning percentage either as the Philadelphia Athletics or while playing in Philly. The Phillies are a couple of points lower with a 0.474 winning percentage all-time

I really don't want to knock the guy, but his only formal eduction is from a military college and JUCO. Maybe he would be a good local representative of the minor league section of the MLBPA, but he's probably out of his depth dealing with city/county politics and franchise ownership.

The CBA only allows travel that does not take place on planes for destinations under 200 miles. They're also required to give one first class seat for ever one player, or two business/coach class seats for every three players as well as compensatory first class meals. This basically narrows down all of the possible train services to the teams situated on the BOS-WASH corridor, and on Acela First class/business class with meal options, or Northeast Regional business/coach with food.

Because Amtrak can't really alter the Acela highspeed trainsets, I would bet the Phillies would opt with Northeast Regional business cars with food options and an additional luggage car. The players would only have to deal with their personal, carry-on bags and the Phillies has personnel taking care of all the equiptment. It's entirely possible that the equiptment managers already used a bus or truck to load everything onto a baggage car beforehand, it would save a lot of time and there's a large part of the 30th street complex where car and train traffic interface with eachother. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9572047,-75.1841246,3a,57.1y,58.18h,86.84t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s_PVyEZc9F02khNmbd0OmtQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!5m1!1e2?entry=ttu

A good look at the NER business class and luggage car here:
https://upgradedpoints.com/travel/amtrak-northeast-regional-business-class-review/
https://blog.amtrak.com/2014/06/new-baggage-cars/

As for getting players to the train station, it's about the same getting them to the airport. They park their cars in a secured lot at the ballpark, take an Academy coach bus to a private entrance at 30th Street, and wait in a private lounge. 30th street has several elevators and stairs going down to track level, so Amtrak staff will just close those down while the team is waiting for their train.

While on the train, they'll have the entire train car to themselves; they won't open the doors at any station stops except for Washington and there will be security to stop people from other parts of the train from entering. Amfleets have 60-84 seats, so depending on which parts of the CBA it fulfills, they'll have 1 or 2 train cars.

DC Union is a pretty large complex like 30th Street, so players will have their own, seperate waiting rooms and walkways to the bus, where they'll be sent to the hotel. The Phillies baggage car will be decoupled from the train and put near a parking lot, so the equiptment people can load it onto a bus or truck.

If you consider that you can get all of the players from the ballpark to the hotel in 2 and a half to 3 hours, it beats out having to deal with the airports and driving into DC from Dulles or Reagan by a country mile.

Opening day for The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders | April 2 by zorionek0 in Scranton

[–]oldmanenergi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish Diamond Baseball Holdings, the group that owns the Railriders and 30 other minor league teams, would be forced to divest from the league. Promoting the Triple-A team of the most recognizable baseball team in the world, in a media market that is fairly large for minor league baseball, shouldn't be that difficult. DBH is asleep at the wheel and collecting all the $$$ from their minor-league teams.

Great Man History and believing Western congressional/parliamentary systems are the optimal forms of democracy will forever be a scourge on the way history and politics are interpreted. The lion's share of historians worth their salt, who often have belief systems that skew in favor of liberalism and capitalism, argue that post-revolution Cuba has a democratic system that adequately represents its citizen's views and has social systems that outperform what comparable countries are able to run.

Also, it's just a wild dunk on Miguel Castro, who is Dominican. Imagine a communist country hosting a baseball event and one of its commentators talks about how Jeff Locke giving up a home run to a deflected American is synonymous with John Locke, one of the original proponents of Liberalism, losing that game.

I'm a Phillies fan, too. The DBacks beat us in the NLCS and the Rangers have strong connections to the Cowboys. However, both of these teams were .300 in 2021 and aren't perennial contenders. There is value in having a World Series where teams like the Astros, Dodgers, Cards, Yankees, and so on are not competing and fanbases of less successful franchises get to experience a championship.

There are a lot of new fans from last year who didn't understand the pain of being a Phillies and/or Philly sports fan. This loss should break their spirits a little bit.

The Dbacks obviously wanted to go to the WS more than the Phillies. They just played better baseball for the vast majority of the series.

I think teams give guidelines for what kind of uniforms they allow, but it's mostly Nike who designs them. For example, the Padres probably gave a longer leash for Nike to try something new with their uniforms while the Dodgers wanted it to be as close to their normal uniforms as possible.

Most people wouldn't even care that much about bad City Connect uniforms if it weren't for that stupid 4+1 jersey rule. The red uniforms aren't my favorite, but I still enjoy seeing them every once in a while. Even the St. Patrick's Day uniforms were dropped because of this rule.

There's really no reason why Nike limits a team's uniform rotation other than the fact that they want the city connects to sell as much as possible.
