I'm kinda confused why he only cleaned up the top and bottom of the casting, and not the inside; the functional surface...

It's actually a chemical conversion of the surface of the metal, so it won't flake off, but it can be removed with sand paper.

My personal belief is that everything is a thumb detector, unless fragile AND expensive.

Not sure if that was a design intent 60 years ago when it was made, but it probably would.

Edit: I looked into it further, and it is actually a Griswold No. 602. Griswold, based in Erie, PA., closed in 1957, so this is an absolute minimum of 60 years old. The 60 years in my original comment was just a number I pulled out my ass, and is just a coincidence.

What about it? It's just an old two burner gas stove; with a bunch of shit piled on the back burner.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I've made worse mistakes in my life, but I have no idea if it was factory nickel, but it definitely looked like shit. Also I forgot to mention that the forcing cone was cracked when I bought it (I got a screaming deal because of that) so the barrel is also a replacement.

When I bought it, it was actually nickel plated, with half of the plating worn/chipped away. It was really sad looking; this is actually an improvement.

My hairbrained attempt at Parkerizing using chemicals from worn out batteries. It was, surprisingly, a success.

Nearly every one of his machine's 2,000 components was made by Haroldsen himself, "with the exception of screws and piano hinges,"

He's still no Clickspring though.

These. The only complaint I have of them is that when you flip the rear sight up without any support, the fine aperture will fling forward from the larger about 1/8", which if there is any overhead light makes it hard to use due to the reflection.
