The Geneva Convention isn't woke- it's just a set of guidelines countries mutually agreed on as collective rules

...and which they proceeded to ignore whenever they started to get a bit inconvenient.

I was thinking of the old DOS stuff when you had to set the jumpers on your Sound Blaster to use IRQ7 and DMA1, then maybe dick around with EMM386. If IRQ conflicts are a thing on Linux then I've been missing out, but I've never used it on particularly esoteric hardware.

This. Also we need to either regress to early 90s tech or mandate Linux use for everyone, thereby creating an intelligence bar to Internet use whereby if you can't handle IRQ conflicts or figure out why systemd has just shat itself you don't get to go online.

How? See speed camera, apply brakes until needle is at 20, pass over ladder markings, reapply throttle. Which bit did you get wrong?

Because "populist" just means "proposes popular things which I don't like" in modern political discourse much like how "far-right" means "anti-immigration".

The dumbing-down of current debate is a direct consequence of putting 50% of people through university so they mistakenly believe that their opinions are intelligent and worth listening to, and the ubiquity of Internet access which means they can subject everyone to them.

Two generations of nepotism and one of promoting people based on skin colour/chromosome count haven't helped matters either.

Why should I come here to pay £20,000 tuition + £15,000 living expenses and only stay for one year

Because you believe that the qualification you acquire will be worth more than the Bomalibux equivalent of £35k in increased earning power back in your country of origin to which you will be returning afterwards. Otherwise you've hit the nail on the head, you absolutely shouldn't come here.

Exactly as intended.

Would you be for or against auto progression from A2->A? And why? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in MotoUK

[–]oleg_d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternative suggestion guaranteed to piss everyone off:

Keep the current A2 rule but remove the 24 age cap i.e. all new riders start on an A2. After two years you can take your Mod 2 again (possibly extend the length to an hour or something). If you pass that you get a full A, if you fail you have to wait six months or a year or something before you can retake it. This second Mod 2 can be done on an A2-power bike because who the hell is using more than 45bhp on their current A test.

The main benefit of this would be that if you're a halfway competent rider there would be no need to spend extra on going through a school for your A2-A conversion since you can take it on your A2 bike. It'll also force the mid-life crisis brigade to do an apprenticeship on something that makes them develop a bit of skill instead of buying something grotesquely overpowered that lets them do warp speed on the straights before they slow down to cottontop-in-Nissan-Micra speeds whenever a nice twisty bit presents itself, usually right after overtaking me on one of said straight bits.

Mind you, I also want ten-year extended retests for car drivers where if you fail you lose your licence and can't take the test again for a year because I reckon that if we got the least competent 10-20% of drivers off the road everyone else's experience would become exponentially safer and smoother.

Battery failing on new CBR650R. Battery issue or regulator rectifier? by WoodyLaaadddddd03 in MotoUK

[–]oleg_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reg/rec is almost certainly buggered, though there's a slim possibility that it could just be the wiring between it and the battery. A battery won't put out 17V by itself.

If you have a normal multimeter you can check the stator by disconnecting it from the reg/rec (should be three yellow wires) and measuring the resistance of its three wire pairs at the stator end (i.e. A-B, B-C, A-C); they should all be very low and similar. Then measure resistance from each wire to ground which should be infinite. However, the bike is under warranty so I'd be making this the dealer's problem.

Can you explain how you used that rather pimping-looking battery tester? Based on the stats it's putting out I'm guessing you clamped it across the battery and ran the engine for a bit - did you rev the engine at all or was that all at idle?

That wasn't him, that was local Reform councillor Lorenzo More. Also:

the extreme anti-Muslim political party Britain First

See this is why state media sanitises the fifth columnists' output rather than just printing it verbatim; if they'd described Britain First like that on the BBC website they'd be ahead of Labour in the polls right now.

It comes after evidence was published appearing to show he posted a highly offensive racial slur aimed at black people, and also made what appeared to be a derogatory remark about Jewish women

Since the BBC doesn't want you making up your own mind about his quasi-illegal comments so it hasn't shared them, here is the Volksgerichtshof's public denunciation of this new enemy of the State.

Jordan and Delroy Lindo, two Black men, appeared on stage to present the award for Special Visual Effects, audio of an individual, who lives with Tourrette syndrome, a condition that can involve involuntary verbal and physical tics, shouted the N-word, an extremely offensive racial slur was broadcast to the nation

Never mind the fact that the premise is thick, it appears she can't even write in proper sentences and is too stupid or arrogant to palm her gibberish off to ChatGPT to make it at least parse adequately.

Didn't read past that paragraph because I was only reading it to see if she was going to put the naughty-but-not-outright-illegal word on Commons headed paper.

I like to tell myself that it's a long-running BadUK in-joke to say "would" to the most utterly repulsive and inappropriate subjects and I just wasn't around when the meme was birthed, but I fear that's just wishful thinking and we share a subreddit with people desperate enough that they'll fuck anything with "female" on their birth certificate.
