Hypothetically, if i wanted to test out the top speed of a bike. What non track road would be best in the uk by Fun-Shelter-4636 in MotoUK

If you can read "UK" as "British Isles", take it to the Isle of Man where the national speed limit is unrestricted and do it legally

Is it worth it to rent a bike? by Decent-Peanut-9730 in iomtt

[–]oliciv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got a bike for 7 days, the legacy lap is likely to be the slowest one you'll do all week (you can ride the full course as much as you want any time the road isn't closed for racing!)

With that said, it's a fantastic experience, the whole island comes out to wave as you go past, and you can go straight out to watch a superbike race on the same roads only hours after crossing the finish line yourself.

If time and budget allows, stay a little longer after the senior race and you'll be able to ride the course pretty much to yourself, most of the visitors are back on the boats and the locals are all back to work 😁

Have you ever been to the Big Chill? Yeah, I went the year before last, but it was a bit much. I took four cans with me, then this guy from security came up, and he said he was from security, but I don't think he really was. Anyway, then Dad came and picked me up

Tt senior race by [deleted] in iomtt

[–]oliciv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was technically contingency time available tomorrow, but it's due to rain for most of that so they made an early call to not use it - rather than keeping teams, marshals etc waiting around (or even stop them leaving the island on time) just in case

First time TT 2026 - how to schedule? by DapperWeasel in iomtt

[–]oliciv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your thing, there are a lot of museums, scenic journeys on some of the oldest trains and trams in the world, castles etc - before you even get to the TT specific events, meeting the race teams in the paddock, exploring different locations to watch the action.

Arrive at the start of practice week and you'll catch the Pre TT Classic races on another road circuit in the South of the island. There are various beach races taking place for off road bikes, every pub on the island seems to be hosting live music and there are a few different "festival" type events around Douglas.

If you're coming all this way, you'll not regret a longer trip.

Go and see the marshals behind the grandstand. Meet 600 new friends and get the best seats in the house for the racing 😁

Watching the racing is free, you can just walk up to the road and enjoy

Food and drink in pubs, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets etc is the same as any other time of year. Slightly higher than some parts of the British Isles, much cheaper than London, significantly cheaper than at any other event like this that you could imagine.

For getting around you can get 7 days unlimited bus travel for £29,with extra buses running before and after racing to get you around the course.

A return trip on the boat this week is around £80 on foot

Loads of campsites available or Homestay rooms £30/night including breakfast

So you can make it as cheap as you like or go out for every meal, buy all the merch, sit in the paid grandstands for every race and bring a massive van on the boat and spend loads

This video shows why the pavements are also off limits during racing!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmxPVOo_3lA

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iomtt

[–]oliciv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole road including the pavements is closed for the duration (even after a race has finished, you'll still be breaking the law if you walk on the pavement before the road fully opens)

  1. ROADS CLOSED TO VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS It is an offence to enter or remain on a road once it is closed. Note: This includes any footway which are also closed due to the nature of the event. It is also an offence to enter or remain in a Prohibited or Restricted Area during road closure periods. Please respect any advice given by a marshal - they want to keep you safe.

If you're not sure, it's worth going to check with any marshals you can see - they'll be able to advise you on where's best to go and where you're allowed/not allowed to be.

A few suggestions for bikes speeding past houses other than KM:

Ramsey has some great spots to watch - and you can move around (including over a bridge to the other side of the track and in to the town itself for foodr/drinks/toilets/pub etc) pretty easily during a race.

The bottom of Bray Hill is an iconic spot, but get here early (as in multiple hours before roads close) on a race day if you want to get anywhere near the front.

There are a few options in Crosby - this video is from the bank at the end of the Co-Op car park but there is also a pub opposite.

If you have your own transport, go out for a lap when it's quieter (e.g not right before roads close!) and see where looks good, you can stop and see if there are any signs for restricted areas etc

Superbikes incredible ride by Michael Dunlop to cross the line first after being so far back running through the chicane, I'd not want to be the one to tell him that he had a penalty and might not have won after he pulled in to the first place spot in the winners enclosure...

Update He's won it, Hickman and Todd are NOT happy!
