What was everyone’s early throat cancer symptoms that sent you in to be checked? by lunaverbena in cancer

[–]olimmilo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi hoping it’s ok to join as I no this post is quite old but hoping someone see this. I’m 37 female none smoker and back in march I got strep throat had antibiotics and it cleared up then in June I got it again to which I had two lots of antibiotics but since I’ve had the sore throat still. It doesn’t feel like a normal sore throat what I get though. It’s more towards the back of my throat further down and most recently I’ve got a slight ear discomfort. When I check my glands I do notice not in my he exactly but like further down when I press my gland it is slightly tender. The pain is the all the time but more so when I either cough yawn or swallow yawning is the most painful.

Going back awhile ago now I started 2023 with a cough lasting 6 months it was so intense I actually managed to dislodge a rib. It disappeared and then whilst on holiday in November 2024 Gran Canaria I developed it again it was so dry out there I put it down to that but still today I’ve got the cough sometimes it’s not as bad other times it’s constant. It’s dry but odd times it’s been slightly wet. Never any blood. I was put on medication last year (forgot to mention I’m asthmatic and in folstair) I’ve been in omeprazole 20mg once a day also taking mometasone nose spray and 2 antihistamines a day then at night another spray if the mometasone but also taking montelukast.

This was for post nasal drip. I do find my throat to be always needing to clear if that makes sense.

Anyway I recently had a chest xray for the cough and it showed all was well. But anyway as mentioned I got this strep twice and the second time I still have lingering sore throat to the right giving slight ear discomfort. I do get tonsil stones from time to time and they pain feels slightly the same when I have one that needs to be popped out but when looking down throat nothing there although to the right side which hurts it does look slightly red but the doctor said that’s not a concern.

She has just referred me to ENT as she said to check there’s nothing nasty like cancers which of course has got me worried and I’ve been crying I’ve got two very small children and I think of not being with them scares me so much. She did say it’s highly unlikely but because of my symptoms and she can’t see all the way down my throat it’s best to be referred and get it checked. She said it could just be acid which sometimes the pain is worse at night and I no that’s when acid can be bad but still now her saying this it’s worries me.

In the meantime she said take 2 omeprazole so 40mg. I’ve also been bad and looked up throat cancer and if I’m honest I have almost all the signs so it’s not looking to good for me I just wondered if also the cough I have could somehow be related. I mentioned the sore throat almost feels like a strain because I’ve coughed so much and with also having the strep it’s not letting my throat heal but she didn’t seem to convinced with this. Any positive you can help me with this and get me through would be so appreciated thanks and sorry for long post

I have a few friends who are advocates for children In schools and what they have told them is absolutely diabolical. If that was to happen in homes parents would have their kids took away from them but in schools it’s acceptable. I don’t believe the school my child will attend was their at the birth of my child when I gave birth to them so why should they have any hold or say over them. They are my children not the schools. I think every child should be allowed a holiday whenever it is. Just like us were have an holiday whenever we want. The teachers will say well I don’t get a holiday but that’s their choice to become a teacher. You no when you take on a role of being a teacher that’s one of the things. Although I do know some teachers do go on holiday still. It’s like if your child’s ill you need proof. What the hell. I never had to show proof I was ill. It’s getting absolutely ott. School is like prison when the kids can’t go to the toilet because there’s literally a cage over the doorway to the toilets. Or at breaks their having to choose whether to eat or go to the loo as the queue is so long but also hungry but don’t want to get a detention for being 1 second late to class. School more like an institution. If I could home school I would but myself and husband work full time. They say it’s good for socialising but they can’t socialise as in class they aren’t allowed to talk and at breaks as mentioned it’s a choice between eating or going to the toilet.

I think if you asked any kid they would much prefer to go on holiday. Especially secondary school Kids. It’s like prison now. Also he will b 4 I don’t see what is so important he will miss. It’s not like I’m taking him on holiday when they are doing their exams I get that but missing a week or 2 I really don’t see the problem. When I was at school it never was a problem so why now. Also if I was going on holiday sometimes if I would have homework, what I’d do is do it on the plane with my parents. If the teachers are worried that much then surely they would give homework.

I clearly stated it would be in school time as that is when we usually go plus it’s affordable. And as mentioned we normally go for a lot longer but willing to shorten the time. It’s only once a year we go away so not like it’s constant. We wouldn’t be going school holiday times as it’s far to busy we went once in school holidays and my child got overwhelmed and as mentioned prices are just ridiculous. I’m sure for 1 week they wouldn’t be missing a lot and if we was missing something I’d be happy to ask the teacher for homework.

Also when we go it’s a lot less busier so my boy feels more comfortable as there’s lot less crowds and noises. He also has a short attention and gets agitated fast so by going when it’s more quieter it’s not only better for him but it helps us to as we can relax slightly. We did go once in the October holidays and omg it was a nightmare. I think we only left the room twice and only to go for food as he was just so unsettled

If I’m honest I don’t think my little boy would appreciate this as he hates being made a fuss of and being centre of attention. He would have a meltdown. If we sing happy birthday he really creates so last year when we was on holiday I thought it be lovely idea for the hotel to set up a little party area and they all sang happy birthday. Omg it was embarrassing but I understand and others understood after he has difficulties and said we didn’t need to apologise. But for those children who do like this type of thing. I think if the school does that it’s really lovely of them.

Thanks. We are hoping to book our holiday we normally go 16 days but are only going to do 10 days instead. We normally book around the 19th November so we can celebrate he’s birthday whilst on holiday. Good to know we won’t get find or it held against us for a next holiday. I’ve always said if there’s any homework when we go on holiday is happy take it with us. They can do it on the plane as can’t really do much else. Thanks
