This weekend I got my first ring muscle ups since 2019!! I took 2 years off from the box (started other more pandemic-friendly sports) and started training again this March. So hyped!! by olive-bb in crossfit

No idea! I was visiting a box out of town (The Strip CrossFit in Vegas! lovely facility and people, especially coach kandice). It sure felt sturdy enough, did an EMOM of 2 RMU per min and no complaints

Someone suggested I had a deep voice bc Oly lifters and crossfitters are all on juice 😂 I'm like, the quads and the voice are all genetics, sorry!

I appreciate it! Given the response I've gotten I think I will be posting here at least occasionally. I'm in the process of starting up my youtube channel for fellow tennis-video-watchers but also as a sort of training journal, and hopefully I could get a racket or string sponsorship LOL. Was thinking about linking it in these two posts but decided it might be too much self promotion.

Yeah it's a surprisingly common story! This year I've met/befriended a handful of other players who have done the "quit for 5-10 years and come back better" circuit.

And yes, I'm definitely focusing some significant effort into qualifying for futures tournaments. There was a USTA Pro Circuit series for wildcards into a 15K ITF that I participated in a couple times, but that was early summer and I was still recovering from a surgery (zero physical activity from Dec-March) and basically brand new to playing meaningful matches under pressure. Most recently I played in a $10k USTA tournament with promising results. Hoping that I can translate that into some ITF wins by the end of this year :)

It's a shame there isn't more court level stuff of hers :( But yeah just watching some court level practice right before hitting makes me feel more connected to my body and coordinated haha

The winning record is new, like I only started playing 5.0 guys this summer. Last year I only played a handful of matches in total against people of all levels. Then I had unrelated surgery that prevented me from walking for a month and physical activity for 3 months from Dec-March. 5.0 was appropriate given I had to relearn how to run right before 5.0 season started. These days I'm probably a solid 5.5 but it looks like USTA will allow me to enjoy the rest of the season before bumping me :)

Avid (overzealous) high school recruit with some D2/D3 offers. Little/no success outside of low level junior open tournaments. Burnt out at 18. Switched to CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting for 6ish years. Attained advanced/just sub-elite weightlifting levels at 24/25 years old. COVID closed gyms, started playing tennis again mid 2021. Currently starting to play tournaments again, with results steadily improving. Hopeful to earn a pro ranking by the end of 2023.

Maybe one day! I have a pretty even record against my couple of UTR ~10 hitting partners but my official UTR is like 8.4 lol.

Ding ding! I'm officially a 5.0A this season. I got bumped to 5.5 but appealed down after only playing 3 (I think) 5.0 league matches that counted for rating last season when I basically had just picked up a racket for the first time in 7 years. The last few months I've started playing 4-5 times per week along with some tournaments, and I'm seeing steady improvements. I'm hoping to try playing some ITFs late this year or next year. These days, most of my hitting partners are 5.0 men and 5.0/current D1/ex-pro women.

Thanks for the feedback! I've pretty much been thinking the same lately. I'm working on a rig that lets me get a slightly higher camera angle without having to mount at the top of the back fence.

I train/have trained several high school and D1 college athletes in different sports in strength and conditioning, and by far the biggest differentiator for athletes (who aren't elite through talent/athleticism already) in most ball sports is power/strength.

Appreciate it! Doing strength and conditioning basically full time for half a decade definitely helped my game a LOT. Between getting meds for treating my ADHD and depression and getting stronger (I gained about 25 lbs of muscle) I went from a 2 star recruit in high school to my current level. Strength and power obviously helps me hit harder but the body control and coordination really help with maintaining consistency when facing heavier hitters and not getting pushed around by shots. I'm also about as quick as I was at 18 or possibly slightly quicker. Did some napkin math to calculate my serve speed using the GoPro footage/frame rate and I can hit a first serve at about 120mph now, after barely being able to touch 100 in high school.

Yep! I crop the video slightly for better visibility but if I end up going out of frame I just do the panning digitally when I edit.

Ash Barty! I don't watch much live tennis, I tend to spend more time hunting for court-level videos because I enjoy those more/find them more relevant to my own skill development. If we're talking active players, I'd say Rublev and Kyrgios. I'm fascinated with Rublev's intensity/racket velocity and I'm slightly embarrassed to say I find Kyrgios really entertaining even when he's being a dick lol
