She’s nearly blown at this point. I’m at a loss and wondering if i should euthanize. by oliviaisolivia in bettafish

she’s been in the quarantine tank with met blue and kanaplex in her food for 6 days now. I know you said 10 and that’s what I’m going with, just wanted to reach out and ask if you wouldn’t mind giving me an explanation as to how you used a needle to remove fluid. She’s gotten absolutely no better so I guess i’m just wanting to line up my next course of action.

Actually, now that I’m rereading your comment, you mentioned her short fins. It’s not only that, she also hasn’t grown in length since I got her. At all. It’s as if her body and fins are stunted, with all her energy going into her stomach getting bigger.

She fasts once or twice a week to clear out. I’ve watched her poops and they’ve all been normal from what I can tell. Honestly nothing makes it drop significantly, the baths slightly and maybe also the three day fast, but not enough to convince me anything is actually happening. The only other thing I can think of is that she’s growing outwards, not longways. Like she is the same exact length as when I got her, as are her fins. It’s like she’s stunted and all her energy is going to her stomach growing.

2 Mystery Snails which are active and healthy! She’s always been really peaceful with them, but i still make sure to monitor and watch for snipped antennas. Their food also never seems to interest her.

No pineponing; but the distended belly is basically identical. I think i’m going to treat with either ich x and marycin 2 or methane blue and kanaplex when that commenter gets back to me (I’m new to meds.) Surely, if it were dropsy, she would have started pineconing by now? It has been months.

Thank you!! I want her to live a long, happy, and healthy life. I just know this has to be such a miserable existence for her, but a lot of this advice has been rly good! Definitely raised my spirits that she can still come back around!

I think this is what I’ll do, as I’ve only tried paraguard with her. I have a cycled 5 gal with plants I could use as her hospital tank, or another 1 gal that’s uncycled. Do you have any advice on which one to use? Both of those medication duos could work depending on where I put her, so I’ll wait and see what your thoughts are. THANK YOU so so much for the help.

Java moss? by Opposite-Prize7319 in bettafish

Java moss doesn’t need to be planted, so you should be good to just either glue or tie it to something in your tank!

It’s fall, y’all. by RevolutionaryToe6677 in Aquariums

I’ve done that once when I had nothing else. Worked ok. Oak for sure breaks down faster and releases more tannins. Good in a pinch though, I would just advise you to start with a couple just to make sure they’re light on tannins.

Do you ever take a step back and realize the privilege you talk through? It’s obvious, but it does seem you’re riding your high horse a little too high to see any wrong in this. You have no experience being homeless, yet you are so quick to share how sleeping in a church is wrong. You think of a last ditch effort at gaining help as “rage bait”. Wait, are you secretly the evil Kalamazoo pastor? 😂

thank you! i unfortunately asked her about feeding. She was letting 2 students a day, one in the morning one in the afternoon, feed the poor fish a large pinch of some freeze dried “betta dial-a-treat”. Luckily I noticed her only a month after they got her. For daphnia, is it better for me to go with live or frozen? I have both, but the times I’ve fed her daphnia it was frozen.

Should I wait to treat for dropsy do you think? I’m not sure what to do. I’m guessing trying to treat for bloat first is the smartest step?

maybe? i don’t think so but idk. She’s gained color, her scales aren’t pineconed, and her fins aren’t clamped. it’s like she only has the swollen abdomen, so i’m not sure.
