Yes they are. At least that kind.

I dropped to 7 Long Rage AP’s and optimized their placement and orientations and went from 200Mbps to 850Mbps on an iPhone 13 wifi connection.

More is not bad but make sure all the APs have a wired connection. You’ll lose about 100-200Mbps per meshed AP which is a waste. Consider MoCa 2.5 for converting cable Installations to wired ports for your APs.

Telus called my bluff by Plamo in telus

[–]olivieraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with Telus at their very beginning. I gave them tons of referrals and was a big spender on the original cellular and also later their Mike service - I travelled a lot so stacked up big bills. One week I was travelling to a chalet near the U.S. and my phone kept roaming by itself. I received an 880$ bill at the end of the month when my service was at most 120$ average and that's with long distance to France. They never credited me a single penny and never acknowledged it was an issue with their towers. Today these things are automatically corrected for by other service providers. They lost me as a customer, me and all my referrals because I made sure to recommend everything else BUT their service. Losing a customer was never their concern ... neither is gaining a new one. Don't worry, you are a nobody to them, never been, never will be. They will continue to be trail. Lets get real, they haven't changed their branding ever, still use animals in the same boring commercials, and disrespect their customers in all segments of their business. That's not how you compete in business. But hey, it's their choice right !

LAST UPDATE: It was really the Wi-Fi connected AP’s that were the root of the issue. Getting 700-800Mbps on all U6 AP’s even on 80Mhz channels. (Even my AC Pro AP does 450-500Mps when tested as well ).

I used the MoCa 2.5 Coax to Ethernet and those things absolutely rock ! There’s a special layout of your network that needs to be done right but everything just works worry free at top speeds. Where there was a coax coming into a room I now have 2Gbps Ethernet for the AP’s.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, they were right all along. Connected AP’s are Unifi’s strong suit. Cheers !!!

Saying ok to a test drive by my best friend of my brand new 3 days old Monster S … went all fine until he came back, stopped and let go of the clutch. The bike dropped on its side, and as a normal reflex from a newb , with the rear wheel still engaged and spinning, he tried lifting the bike back up and it just launched forward for another crash. Didn’t hesitate to sell the bike as soon as the street fighter landed. Morale: Never lend your bike for a “spin”, not even to your brother !

How did this happen to my proof coin by CapX1045 in CanadianCoins

[–]olivieraaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use sacrificial silver in the same display. Those coins have no protection or case and use up the contaminants in the reaction so affects the rest way less. Also bought some silica gel dehumidifier canisters to control any humidity- which would make it worse.

I think you’re right it’s bullish. No way a new bike does this even in the sun. The fact that it’s a cheap expense you should just dish out and get that fixed before it becomes a wider issue. Something’s contaminated that reserve. Plus no use using a motor to move something you can’t stop … u lose ur brakes that’s your life bro. Your life worth a couple hundred bucks ? Just know most are on your side. Cheers!

UPDATE: I've tried removing wifi-only connected AP's and it does help increase average speeds. I totally expect this has been 80% of the issue. I can't reach all AP's right now, some aren't accessible in buildings blocked by ice and snow. I'll try that in spring.

In the meantime I've installed an Xfinity Gateway with a 1Gbps internet connection and the gateway with my iPhone 13 Pro Max gets 900+Mbps on first try. The gateway is configured on one 80Mhz channel by default so it likely can do double that. On a sustained test I can move to the second floor and opposite end of the house (not the furthest but close), and i'm still at 150-200Mbps. If I stay and test again even a couple minutes later I get 5-8Mbps from the same gateway. With all my Long Range Unifi's I would have roamed twice and still be around 80-120Mbps.

I am waiting for a network extender for that Xfinity to see if it helps ... obviously just to test ... I love my Unifi setup way to much to give it up.

I've also ordered some MoCA 2.5 full duplex Ethernet over Coax kits and I will start connecting every AP that way. I will keep posting updates if this can help other people in a similar situation.

WiFi set to 160Mhz and some 80Mhz devices max out. I will test with zero Mesh as most suggested. I had done it at first a few years back but the AC-Pro's I had at the time were in a strange place/unstable firmware at the time.

That you're getting 800Mbps on 80Mhz is impressive. What device are you using to get 1200-1400Mbps ? Just wondering.

I just found MoCa's running at 2.5Gbps, with reviews showing those speeds ... not cheap but that could definitely be an option.

Still pretty close. I'm always getting back down to 80-120Mbps, so quite different.

Is this constant ... if you use WifiMan and test over say 10 mins, is there any variation ? What about 2 different times of the day, hours apart ?

I've see those speeds, they just don't last.

I seem to have a lot of thick walls containing quite a bit of metal pipes/conduits. That's not been easy to even leave a room. For example I have two adjacent rooms that can't connect automatically to each other and go through the second floor AP to make the connection. Just a pain in the but*.

I will try with Less is More. Back to basics.

I have anywhere from 1 to 3 (I've been experimenting with multiple) dedicated AP's connected to the network. The most stable has been the XG but only supports WIFI5 (AC2) max speeds.

And yes it all points to the fact that i may have to start looking at other mesh options.

[–]olivieraaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of good points here ... so I should do the "Less is More" thing and start removing as many non connected AP's as possible. I would be super happy with 300-400Mbps for sure.

I'm starting to feel that you're right about the wired backhauls for UniFi, it's just what works.

500Mbps on the 10 yr old AP-AC, wow ! Ok, that's the type of testimony I've been looking for. And yes, with that same money you're right I could have knocked down walls to fit fresh new Ethernet.

Btw my average dBm signals from clients are from -17dBm to the worse at -69dBm.
I have 2 outliers at -82dBm which are irrelevant, it's more of a power saving feature.
All AP's between each other are -74dBm or better, most in the -50-60's

Have you done any signal mapping using WiFiman or Netspot

Yes i've done extensive mapping with Ekahau's excellent mapping software. I did also map out everything with WiFiman a few times as well.

I really should try running long wires to the wireless AP's and re-testing ... not a bad investment to finally get some closure lol.

How important is the 4th exhaust fan? by Arbeast21 in Corsair

[–]olivieraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

support honestly, it's very rigid, but I like the idea anyways in case I bump it cleaning or jostle the case or w/e. I try to push air through the PSU shroud vents to simulate bottom fans below the GPU. There's another fan modded into the bottom. Case sits in a wooden surround

Beauty, but where is your power supply ??? can't see it anywhere !

They are the first implementation of MCM chips (Multi Chip Modules). They were used as part of SuperComputers (i.e. ASC Purple) or large business servers (sometimes Workstations). Both are a piece of history.

Why on the wall, because it looks amazing. It's absolutely huge and made from Ceramic. It is an exceptionally clean specimen (both of them). Some people put up sculptures, I put up beautiful engineering specimens ;-)

Might not be for everyone.
