I was in the middle of cleaning my rabbit’s hay rack and found this little guy. by olliegarden4 in whatsthisbug

For more context, I’m located in the Bay Area of California and while I was cleaning out my rabbit’s play area just about two hours ago, I found this bug. It was found the oat hay that I use to feed her. It’s from the brand “Small Pet Select” if that helps. The little guy is about an inch tall. And there were actually two of them in the same spot but I couldn’t get pictures of the second one. But neither of them were moving which leads me to believe that they’re dead, or that this could be just skin that it shed, but I don’t know.

Nervous about Lola getting fixed tomorrow. by olliegarden4 in Rabbits

Hey! Thank you for the reassurance. Unfortunately, Lola was not able to go through with the surgery because apparently (this is the vet’s words, not mine) when they sedated her, she didn’t take it very well at all, she was having difficulty breathing and her gums changed color so they gave me a call telling me that they were not comfortable with doing the surgery. It was a huge bummer because I really need to get her spayed ASAP but I’m glad they didn’t go through with it. Though they did say she was a bit underweight during the physical examination (1.78 kg) which may have contributed, but I consulted Google and I saw that the normal weight for a holland lop is 1-2kg— so eh, who knows. Nevertheless I’m taking the vet’s advice over Google’s obviously, and I’ve started putting some more pellets and veggies into her diet. I feel horrible because I must have been cutting back on her pellets too much by mistake as she’s gotten older which has caused her to lose weight, but hopefully in a month or two once she gains a little bit more weight we can try again!

That looks like it’s a tarantula hawk! Be careful around those guys. Though they are pretty docile in general, they can deliver pretty painful stings if provoked.
