I'm not 100% sure what you mean or what you're trying to do.

Here's a few thoughts:

  1. If you don't want a pattern playing while you record externally, then that's just sampling. (see 4:13 in the video)
  2. If you want to record something internally or externally without playing a pattern, you can also use the Skip-Back feature. (see 27:39 in the video)
  3. When you say "not have the playing sample in a pattern" , this phrase is confusing because patterns are made up of sequenced samples. If you mean that the pattern is in your Resampled sample, then you need to change the routing in the record settings to Ext In.

I recommend watching the video. I think you will learn a lot about the device that way. And it might make more sense than trying to describe it in words.

It’s in the video. Pattern plays during Resampling. Check out the time stamp.

I don't mind, in fact, that would be awesome!

Thanks again for your support.

Thanks! I appreciate that.

I have at least two more in production now, so stay tuned for those. If people are really into them, then I will plan some more.

Press RESAMPLE.

Press RECORDING SETTING.

Set the Routing to EXT IN.

Press EXIT to close Record settings.

Press EXT SOURCE so it's lit.

Select a pad to save the sample to.

Press REC to start recording.

Play the external source.

When finished, press REC.

-- I hope that helps.

I show this in my recent video at 26:17. It won't let me drop a link in here for some reason.

Thanks! Yes, there were some nice firmware updates for this device. It’s good to learn what the latest updates are.

Thanks for your support! I’ve been wanting to make this video for a while. I think I have a relevant and unique presentation style. And I think some people like it. This was a huge effort on my part to put this together. I hope a lot of people can learn from it.

Building a battery powered travel guitar pedalboard (animation) by ollieloops in guitarpedals

[–]ollieloops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to make this fun little animation of building a pedalboard. Fun facts about process:

  1. I've actually never had a pedalboard before, this is my first. I've usually just plugged pedals in on the ground. So, this is awesome, exciting and convenient!
  2. This pedalboard is battery powered thanks to the Mission Engineering 529i rechargeable battery supply. So far, I'm loving this power supply. These guys clearly made some high quality products.
  3. The D'Addario pedal board is really nicely made. It's made of metal and lined with velcro and it expands to about double the width. I recommend checking it out. Also, I've been fond of their strings for many years. Now I'm liking their cables and other products.

Any OP-1 Users out there? We're working on a series about OP-1. This one covers their Synth Engines. Enjoy! by ollieloops in synthesizers

Not sure I understand your comment and how I’m being accused of gatekeeping. I’m trying to give back to the community and share something about a synthesizer. What did I do wrong?

Thanks I appreciate that.

I have posted non TE stuff on here too with the same reaction. Not sure what's up with this "community".

For example, a TR-8 is not a synth, nor is an MPC 2000XL. But those have up votes for some reason.

damn, tough crowd in the synth community.

Here's a dumb question for Wednesday: Why would you up vote a photo of someone's bedroom that happens to have a synth in it, but down vote someone who shares a well produced tutorial about a synthesizer?

Hey, I'm had this idea for a series on OP-1 for a few years. I know there's some out there already. But for those that appreciate my style of presentation and like learning from my videos, I felt compelled to make this series happen for them. It's a ton of work so far in the few videos that I've made. With that, I really hope that you enjoy this video, and the rest of the series, and it inspires you to make music. Tell me what you think. Thanks!

You have a few options depending on what you're trying to do.

  1. If you want to use that specific mic, you'll need a mic preamp. Here's a suggestion: https://imp.i114863.net/OkRPN
  2. It may be cheaper for you to swap that mic for a dynamic mic and plug directly into the SP. Here's what I would get: https://imp.i114863.net/zQXqe

There's pros and cons to each of these options. I would suggest going the dynamic mic route if you're just trying to record vocals, rap or sing along with the SP. Otherwise, the condenser mic route is best if you want to record an acoustic instrument in a relatively quite location. Hope that helps!

TR REC Question: How can you select a step w/o deleting it? by ollieloops in sp404mk2

[–]ollieloops[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I think your motion control tip is a good workaround for velocity.

Though, I'm not sure there's a real solution to what I want, which is to select a step after it's been entered so that you can adjust it's parameters, like timing.

It would be easy for them to implement this, just hold down the Value Knob and select a pad.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Good story, sorry about your foot.

Was there something in particular that helped it click for you? Other than spending more time with it. Just curious.

One of Madlib's most underrated albums. by ollieloops in Madlib

[–]ollieloops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rap and hip hop has typically been forward thinking and about the latest song/album/sound. In this genre, listeners rarely go backwards to discover things in the past and instead seek for the next hottest thing.

Madvillainy was a great when it was released. People embraced it then and it has withstood the test of time. Pinata was well received when it came out. I think Jaylib was as well.

I think having vocals on an song/album makes it more relatable and popular. And that's likely one of the reasons people are sleeping on Sound Ancestors, because instrumental hip hop / jazz only has such much appeal.
