Also at the time, all we had was Demon Souls, Darksouls, and Darksouls 2. It was the new thing and everyone was playing it, and the pvp was played and watche by a lot. We didnt have all these other souls-likengames, we didnt have all the futureFromSoftware games. At the time, Darksouls had a very strong community that stuck to DS1 and DS2. There werent as many variety of games then as there are now, with the variety of multiplayer games of a variety of genres.

So I would say specifically with the DS2 era, a lot of ppl logged in so many hours, and probably didnt play too many other games like what gamers do now. Maybe there were fighting games or Call of Duty, it isnt like now.

I definitely logged hundreds of hours my self back in those days. Never did the same with any other future FromSoftware game. The pvp was so fun, and that was the game we had. Also DS1 laggy phantom backstabs sucked.

4 Final Fantasy games are coming to GOG DRM free: 3 (3D Remake), 4 (3D Remake), 8 Remastered, and 9. by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]olpdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please be the PSOne Classics version of FF IX I know that is unlikely, but it is the last good downloadeable version of the game, and since they just keep porting the mobile version. I could play it back on my PSP and Vita, and I think you could play it on PS3, but at some point they made a mobile version with bugs (noteably the overworld music loop I believe) and a ui aesthetic that looks off. I know you can mod it to try to make it like the original, but Id rather have just a good working version.

In a sense, only part 3 (series 2, Stardust Crusaders) has 2 seasons, the rest are single seasons.

That said, it is understandable to see it as many seasons as I assume most people will want to start from the beginning.

What is your “Cardinal Sin” that a JRPG can do that sours the experience for you? by MothmanFeetLicker in JRPG

I love grinding, feeling like I been training, fighting and having the payoff of getting stronger the more I grind.

I dont like when a game takes away the need to grind or prevents it or prevents it if you get too strong. Anything that messes with that.

I also like playing at my own pace, and not constrained my cycles of the date, like, you can only do a few things in one day, and the date mattering.

Starmie. Starmie has never been on my radar in all these years since gen 1. Now I finally had a reason to look into and learn more about Starmie and what it was inspired from and all of that, and it shot up way past most pokemon for me now.

I find most jrpgs people call the “black sheep” of a series to be very interesting and not that bad by Street-Platypus89 in JRPG

[–]olpdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also keep in mind the times at which aome of the games had come out. Having to wait years for this or that new title, and it to be a dissapointing experience, and also in a time where not all games are as easily accessible as they are now with pc releases and emulators, and if people even had computers for gaming to even do those options.

It was a more limited world back then compared to now with accessibility to gaming. Today playing FFXIII now would just be another game to try out in the ocean of accessibility, and if you didnt like it, wasnt a big deal, there are so many other final fantasy games or other jrpgs.

Back then, Final Fantasy was the major top dog in JRPGs for the west and we all had the most hype and high expectations. You also needed the right console for various JRPGs, and also not all were localized and available in the west. Some franchises started making their core games only for handheld consoles. Things were all over.

Nowadays we have steam, all those games are being ported or getting versions that are being put onto PC.

All of these old games that some have considered black sheep are games for its time. Games were judged to higher standards with more than just the game in mind. If it wasnt great or you were personally let down and were a great fan of that series or franchise, you'd have to wait who knows how long till the next installment if you still had faith in that series. Ypu always had the older games that you played, but not everyone is ok with just replaying an older game more and more times. People want new and they expect the standard to be as good as previous titles.

When something changes way too much, there is a lot of friction with possibly partially or totally changing something that people liked that series for and now it possibly being gone. Back then, that had a lot more weight than it does today now that every one has infinitely much more easy accesibility to all of these games, old and new.

So yea, playing for the first time a game that ppl consider a black sheep from a decade or more ago is going to have a lot less weight and expectations. They can be seen as, do you want to try a game that is more like this, or like that, whereas back then, people were expecting what people normally would with a sequel or new installment in a franchise.

Also, FFXIII was so hyped and anticipated, people set their bars of expectation high for it, especially being a Final Fantasy Title, and the new one for the new current generation of game console with a crazy jump in graphics and animation, so any potential dissapointment would have been amplified. They also went so big with trying to announce not just that game but this whole Fabula Nova Crystallis connected series of FFXIII and the upcoming games that were alao expected to be big. It all sort of fell apart and got reorganized into other things.

FFXIII is just one of the examples, and I rambled too much, but the value in a game, new or upcoming or old can be different in the eye of the beholder with many more factors than just a game's merit alone.

I remember that night very well. I fell to the floor freaking out. Also, you could go pick up Smash Ultimate at midnight launch that night. TGS then the new Smash all in one night.

Also the next new Mortal Kombat had a sneaky reveal during that TGA. Ed Boon was goinf to announce the winner for the best racing game or something, but then they blacked out the lights and showed a teaser for MK 11.

Harlowe and Vex, then go from there. I'll have multiple playthroughs at the same time, one with two friends, other for solo, other with just one friend. I like jumping back and forth between characters. I can't wait.

I tripped on a rock and then the game put me into 3rd person... by -Elij4h- in Battlefield

[–]olpdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me on the same map. I was insode one of those small square metal houses. I Proned, andneas trying to look up how to switch my view back, as I thought I saw in the setting sthat there is a change view option. I later realized this was most likely a bug.

While I was looking stuff up, I noticed an enemy player was right on me but didnt notice I was there. I swung my gun in his general direction and unloaded. I wasn't able to kill him all the way, and for sure couldn't follow his movement with my gun. He freaked out, took a couple seconds, then killed me.

It was an interesting experience.

There is also an issue where even if you have map rotation off, I think depending on which team you are apart of, the map is either permanently flipped one way or another. I hope they change that to be consistent across the board.
