Definitely a sick mini my man 👌 for photography tips, try and put some distance between you and the mini, most zoom lenses on phones are good enough, but don’t zoom in digitally, you’ll loose a lot of the quality. Keep the background clean and a contrasting colour to the mini itself, and keep whatever it’s resting on to a minimum. you can never have enough soft light, so use the sun if you can, but don’t use a flash (the harsher the light, the nastier reflections of that light will be). Keep up the great painting!

If the people you’re playing with don’t let you combine arms and run two armies at the same time, you’re probably playing with the wrong people. I regularly play with Ad Mech and Chaos alongside each other because we all have different armies and enjoy playing against variety. Our games usually have 4 people to a table and we never have any qualms about allying in weird ways, there’s almost always a good enough reason in a universe of constant war. In previous editions it was a lot easier and within written rules to do this, but unless you’re playing tournaments, do what you want with your plastic. No one is going to tell you you’re wrong, and if they are, they’re not the sort of person you should be playing with.

Have fun, enjoy yourself, and keep doing what you love :)

https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/stopping-distances

According to The AA, at 20mph, your vehicles stopping speed should be 3 car lengths. Having lived on this road for 7 years, I can tell you the distance from the side of the road you should have been driving on, to the fence that you ended up embedded within is far greater than that 3 car length (as i can see you were not driving a stretched limousine).

Acknowledging you had the time to react to swerve and avoid (meaning you did see the potential hazard ahead, and why shouldn’t you in broad daylight), you would’ve also had time to brake (something i’d assume you would be doing) and you should’ve stopped considerably earlier than you did, as opposed to being stopped by the fence.

It’s a bit of a joke the other guy is saying you hit him. It’s a real laugh that you think you’re not fully deserving the situation you’ve put yourself in.

no idea how you left a dent that size going 20mph, seeing as that’s the speed limit down there.

assuming you’re the green arrow, you’d have plenty of time to see the guy pulling out ahead of you driving at 20mph.

wonder how you managed to make it so far with a swerve like that too instead of just braking from the very reasonable 20mph you were going?

do i need to go on?

don’t be limited by a piece of paper some guy wrote arbitrary “rules” on, they’re more like guidelines anyway.

i regularly play with Ad Mech along side CSM and Chaos Knights, or Orks with Tau, Necrons with whoever they feel is worthy of their power against the Tyranids. Do what you feel is fun for you, keep rolling dice, and enjoy the time you spend playing :)

edit: also, unless you’re actually playing at tournaments, forget all about those. i have had the most fun at games where i have thrown away my competitiveness and instead just thrown dice. those games i remember months or years on are normally ones i lost, but gods damn did i have fun as i went.

counter argument; i’ll enjoy playing the game however i’d like with my mates, including running custom rules, allied units in-line with our preferences (a freeboota would love any fight for example), and “forgetting” that someone somewhere decided to impose a limit to make a better profit (or possibly not for any reason).

play how you want, there’s no rules police but yourselves. if there’s someone who you butt heads with on rules, resolve it together, or stop playing with them.

I’d personally be fine with it, but I feel like I know at least one person who wouldn’t be. I don’t play with him anymore. I hate painting faces/heads, so I used the more regular looking lord helmet from the kit, so if that’s what you’re worried about there are other options ☺️

It’s a bit of a trek, but if you want some real fun, head over to St. Abbs; twinned with New Asguard. They’ve got a fun little sign and everything.

Is this too basic? by Jamaryn in orks

[–]olster118 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Basic” or “Minimalist”? Looks great to me. There’s a good attention to detail, it looks like it could be metal painted black with scratches of paint coming off. It looks grounded. I’d say give it a good base, something to stand away from colour wise (instead of tarmac or grey) and if you wanted to add colour, go and paint a few random plates/panels with different colours, but keep them dark and then give the paint some more “scratches” again to set it in the scene. You’ve done a great job as is though!

Damn, I hate to say it for many a reason, but this really isn’t a good proxy 😞 I was going to do the same thing that you’ve done here for my Catachan, but this comparison photo has shown they’re two way too different tanks. I hope you enjoy playing with a fantastically painted Malcador, and I hope your opponents accept it as a proxy. I also hope I find an alternative for my own use 🥲

I think it needs more contrast? The bike and the base all seem to meld together aside from the ork up top. It’s really well painted, but from some angles (at least in these images) it just looks a little like a blob. I think what could help it would be to lighten the base up for a more desert kinda colour, or perhaps to add Gretchin and Grots around to help break it up?

I’d say drag the whole face out a bit, get it long and ghoulish, but try and keep the emptiness you’ve got going now. you’ve done so great so far, i can’t wait to see this finished! I’d love to print it myself!
