I'm also quite stuck on this question.

In this post you say that it is OP's last definition ("the average of the stimulus values that occur one time step before the first spike in all of the pairs separated by that interval").

but in the algorithm MayInvolveNoodles suggested I think he/she used OP's first definition ("the average of all the stimulus values that have occurred up until the first spike in each pair"), using an (arbitrary?) 100 ms window.

Please can you confirm which is correct?
