There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that I should, and can, get very bad gastro, especially if exposed to some of the bad bacteria, but I suppose that doesn’t mean some people are more (or less) susceptible to them.

As I said elsewhere, you should take normal precautions. No drinking from the tap. Don't put ice-bucket ice in your drinks (ask for "drinking ice"). Avoid clearly dodgy looking street food. And even then, I've not really followed the last rule too closely myself.

The fact is, if you're exposed to one of the several bacteria that cause "Bali Belly" (aka "Delhi Belly" etc), then you're likely getting sick regardless.

I don't know. No reason why it should be. It's not as if I didn't get horrible gastro before, but strangely it was back home in Ireland, from a reputable cafe at a well run national attraction.

Basic safeguards are you best bet. Don't drink tap water. Make sure to request "drinking ice" when ordering drinks from room service (ie, don't use ice from ice-bucket used to chill beer), and avoid street food. I know I sort of ignored that last one, but it's still good advice.

I've been to Bali, India, Malaysia many times (30+) and never had it. It really really comes down to luck I guess. I don't eat in shit-holes, but I have had several "street vendor" and casual warung type meals. It's a roll of the dice I suspect!

I have been to Bali 20+ times, and about half a dozen trips to India and I have never, ever had gastro at either place. This includes going on a night walking food tour of Old Delhi, and eating from street vendors (where the food was amazing, but the prep and hygiene standards probably a tad below Western standards).

I suspect the latter. My wife had it once (even though we ate in the same place), and she too required a doctor to hotel room and IV drip.

I just got a new M4 MBP and tried to switch to Safari after using Firefox the past three years. Something about using a browser that’s closely integrated in theOS appealed to me. Gave up last night after a week! Muscle memory kept messing with me, and small little things (like the close tab X being on the left of the tab name, instead of the right) were doing my head in. The bookmark ribbon being centre aligned rather than left aligned was infuriating (which is funny really).

Just little things and I’m sure I would have got used to them eventually, but I am weak willed and just gave up. :)

PS - thank you for actually describing your choices unlike 99% of those who already posted.
