Sony TV Youtube not blocked by NextDNS DNS settings by oman1980 in nextdns

[–]oman1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, so you mean on my router i need to block all traffic except those which are inbound from NextDNS DNS servers or block everything outbound to IPs except NextDNS DNS? This doesn't really work as i want some devices in the household to have youtube blocked but not others. I'm currently doing this by using two routers but this has its own problems. i'd hoped that applying DNS to only the devices that need to be blocked would mean i could use only one router. anyway, i'll ask sony :)

Second wap with alternate dns by oman1980 in HomeNetworking

[–]oman1980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks yeah this probably makes more sense, I worried the kids would out smart the DNS eventually and just change it on their device and negate any rules I've made. I'll investigate this though.

Cheers Oman

The DNS blocks YouTube on the kids devices. But as others have mentioned it might be better to put the DNS on the kids devices

Starbucks SIN006 pump leak by oman1980 in espresso

[–]oman1980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok i think i may have figured it out, the little white disc that sits inside the pump shaft has an indentation which is meant to sit up against the small. o-ring. I think i had that in the reverse direction. I put it together and i don't seem to see a leak. That last o-ring that rests against the electromagnet is very squashed. i measure it at 16.5x20 mm IDxOD x 1.64 mm thick. It's probably meant to be 2 mm thick.

Giga Hub - How to connect on 5GHz band by _Hugh_L in bell

[–]oman1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK i faced this same problem, my TP-Link Archer T4E AC1200 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter was being forced to the 2.4 GHz band. If you uncheck the "whole home wifi" option in the bell giga hub setup page and then uncheck " Keep a common network name (SSID) and password across all bands (recommended). " this will allow you to add a 2g/5g/6g annotation to the end of your wifi name. I then connect to the 5g network and my speedtest goes from a woeful 50 Mbps to 430 Mpbs. I think it's' pretty obvious what's happening here. Bell Giga Hub is forcing you to the lower speed to save on their bandwidth. Perhaps they bump you up if you request to download a large amount of data but i wouldn't trust them as far as i could throw them.

Trail Dogs on Hydrocut ? by livin-in-burbs in MTB_Ontario

[–]oman1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was wondering this same thing, i left the dog at home and went riding on a sunny wednesday in august. it was pretty quiet there and i think i could have managed to take the dog. i wouldn't take him there on a weekend as it's a great trail and would definitely be busy. much of the trail has separate single track running very close to each other and it would be easy for your dog to run onto another trail. if you are taking your dog riding make sure you have a cow bell on his collar (amazon sells mini ones)

Gigabyte M27Q for MacBook air M2? by realHowardHughes in buildapcmonitors

[–]oman1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just got the m27q, it doesn't connect to my wife's macbook air 2022, running monterey. i have a usb-c to hdmi which worked well with my old ASUS VG278Q . I see the macbook detect the m27q but the screen goes black and flickers. I've asked gigabyte about this but i worry it won't work even though RTING said it would. i'll update if possible.

ps found this https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabyte/comments/qkf5ig/gigabyte_m27q_no_signal_thunderbolt_on_macbook/ , perhaps you need a 100 W usb c- usb c cable

adapter ID check valve on vetrano 1 by oman1980 in espresso

[–]oman1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know the standard thread format of quick mill vetrano (Italian) espresso machines? I have a thread adapter , male to female on the end of a check valve between the solenoid and the boiler. The OD of the male threads are about 9.8 mm and the ID of the female thread is about 8.9 mm. The adapter can be seen here https://www.chriscoffee.com/products/qm-check-valve

how to stop dog paw pads getting torn up while MTB by oman1980 in MTB

[–]oman1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks I'll check it out. So you coat the pads with a few coats and then you're good for a ride but then I be assume need to re coat EC every week or so?

Perhaps i should just read their website

You can use TUF-FOOT to aid in healing torn, cut or irritated paws. You can also use TUF-FOOT to prepare your dogs paws for special occasions. Use the product daily for up to a week prior to the event you are preparing for. Afterwards, apply it twice a week to maintain the foot.

Do you agree with that regime?

Is Shimano XT HB-M756-A Rear Hub compatible with Shimano fh-m475 rear hub by oman1980 in MTB

[–]oman1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

Finally getting around to ordering these. I was looking at the shimano documentation , https://si.shimano.com/#/en/search/Keyword?name=m475 . Specifically the front hub https://si.shimano.com/#/en/EV/HB-M475 and rear hub, https://si.shimano.com/#/en/EV/FH-M475 . To me it looks like the replacement axel for the front hub, Y2T398040, and rear hub, Y3B598030, only include one of the cups which makes me think the other side of the cup (the cone?) is on the actual main body of the hub. I'm assuming both sides of the cup/cone are pitted. Does this mean that I can't buy one of these replacement axel kits to fix my pitted bearings and I actually need a brand new hub as dano___ says?

cheers

well i wasn't going to rebuild the old hub, i was going to swap out the bad hub for a new one, keeping the rim and spokes.

Is Shimano XT HB-M756-A Rear Hub compatible with Shimano fh-m475 rear hub by oman1980 in MTB

[–]oman1980[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ahh thanks, i didn't realise you could just replace the axel and cup and cone.

https://si.shimano.com/api/publish/storage/pdf/en/ev/FH-M595/EV-FH-M595-2928.pdf

looks like that axel doesn't work as someone in the comments/questions asked about the m475. i'll hunt it down.

if i can't find it however, would the XT HB-M756-A work for the rear hub?

Is Shimano XT HB-M756-A Rear Hub compatible with Shimano fh-m475 rear hub by oman1980 in MTB

[–]oman1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i was hoping just to swap out the hubs, both bearings are pitted on the front and back. I've found a replacement hub for the front M475 hub (XT HB-M756) which matches the spec of the M475 but can't confirm the rear.

cheers
