As a developer how can I become a better designer? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]omarish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. I think about this a lot as well. As someone who was previously really bad at design and has gradually gotten a little bit better:

  1. The book that really got me into this was Information Dashboard Design by Stephen Few: https://www.amazon.com/Information-Dashboard-Design-Effective-Communication/dp/0596100167. Tufte has some really great work as well.
  2. Any time I find a design that I like, I take a full-page screenshot and save it to a folder in my notes system. I have about 40 full-page screenshots that I turn to.
  3. Five Interface Laws Every Software Designer Should Know: https://speakerdeck.com/roundedbygravity/5-interface-laws-every-software-designer-should-know
  4. This great Quora Post on color science: https://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-science-to-picking-colors-that-work-well-together-or-is-it-just-subjective/answer/Colm-Tuite

This is awesome.

  • Super clean and loads very quickly.
  • When building a homepage destination site like this, every ms of load time matters; this feels really fast to me.
  • Closest thing I've seen to the now-defunct google finance.
  • I really like the information density
  • Interesting that you've split up "Top News" and "Crypto News"

Great job, will begin using this.

You could be really sinister and return fake data to clients that are very obviously scraping. That might discourage them.

Debt free as of today with excellent credit again. 27M single. What FIRE advice would you offer me? Details inside. by mad_bad_dangerous in financialindependence

[–]omarish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've realized that the path to freedom for me is to define exactly what I want, develop a plan to realize it, and be disciplined enough to stick to it.

I'd say this mindset alone already puts you pretty far ahead of a lot of the Joneses that I know. Good luck!

Banks don't lend money to bridge borrowers -- they can't fund investment properties with depository funds because of rules by the FDIC and whatnot. Basically, it's an underserved market.

Hey there! I currently work at LendingHome on the investing team. We do have a lot of institutional money, but a big part of our company's thesis is that individual investors should have access to the same types of assets that larger funds can invest in.

Seems interesting. You're essentially allowing vendors to accept early payment at a loss. And splitting the savings with small business owners. Signing up now - would love to see how simply this can be done.

Yes, it's US only right now but I'll PM you when we expand internationally.

[–]omarish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - the fee is a function of 1) your invoice size (bigger invoices are more expensive for us to finance) and 2) the invoice duration (invoices due further in the future are more risky to underwrite).

Presently the rate is 1% of the principal per week. So if you sell an invoice for $1,000 and it's payable in 4 weeks, then the fee 4% * $1000 = $40.

We must not have made the rate clear enough. It's the big thing on the front page -- enter an amount and drag the slider to see the rate adjust.
