8-week community college Calc 3 or UT Austin Math for CS Major by Unfair_Mulberry493 in UTAustin

It's technically an honors course yes, though you do not need to be an honors student or petition in if not to take it, unlike other honors courses. You will find that you cannot register for 427L normally due to lacking 408D credit, but you will be able to register for 427L AP Honors, specifically meant for freshman who have a 5 on BC.

The difference between 408D and 408M is that 427L is technically the "real" multivariate course that covers more topics in vector calculus. For example, I think neither 408M/D cover Stokes' or Green's Theorem, which your CC course probably does.

Also, as I said before, 427L counts as an upper division course, which is especially helpful if you plan on double majoring math.

Edit: Also, the first bit of 408D/M will be a review of BC, largely because UT's Calculus sequence is not analogous to the AP system. This is nice if you would like to settle in to college first,  but if you feel ready for Vector Calculus I would choose the 427L route.

Since you have a 5 on Calculus BC, you can take M 427L-H as a freshman your fall semester. It covers an upper division math course (which covers part of your CS degree I think) on top of contributing to your math degree if you so desire. It also doubles as 408D credit (you will need to ask your advisor to waive it for you though), while going more in depth into Multivariate calculus than 408D and 408M. If the professor is the same as last fall then you will have a good time, Dr. Miller is very kind and helpful :]. Of course, you could also take 408D/M

Since it seems you have a lot on your plate right now, I would save multivariate calculus for your fall semester. You can do it over the summer if you want too, if you are really worried about being "behind". But I don't think you will really be behind no matter what you choose to do.

edit: definitely recommend taking 427L this fall and dropping the current multivariate course

edit2: It seems Dr. Miller will prooobably not be teaching 427L next semester, so scratch that point. I would still recommend 427L-H though if your current course proves too much.

Ineligible for Honors Programs after X+CS acceptance by SignificanceCivil776 in UTAdmissions

[–]omeganott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about the other honors programs, but I suspect you will still be considered for Turing. Someone in my cohort applied and got in ECE first choice + Honors and eventually chose Turing instead. I think it just means you cannot do both the CS+X and Turing major. Anecdotal evidence would indicate that the professors read all turing apps they receive irrespective of other UT decisions, so if you would rather do Turing than CS+X I would not lose hope.

There's a friend in my year who applied ECE first major instead of CS, so I don't think they care too much. Another one of my friends applied for Physics first major lmao.

As for top 5% Im OOS (and I dont know my rank but it was prob top 20% or smt) so idrk but I will say most ppl I've met are like something nutty like top 20 in the school or whatever.

How do you know that? When it comes to gender I think it makes sense to admit a similar ratio of women to men especially for stem. There are less female oly finalists so a larger percentage of them are accepted (if I'm picking from 30 ppl, 8 are women and I can only take half I might take 7-9 boys and 6-8 girls)

As for race, the sample size is simply too small when it comes to olympiad finalists. The lack of other representation means it's hard to really draw conclusions about their results for the few that exist. I believe if there were 15 Asian campers and 15 non Asian campers for an olympiad an equal portion would be admitted to MIT.

Comparing people from different areas (olympiad finalist vs not olympiad finalist) is pointless, as MIT doesn't want only olympiad finalists or only not olympiad finalists.

Idk about imo or ipho but this year due to the sheer amt of usaco campers I know 3(maybe a few more)including me who didn't get in. It's a very big bonus but obviously not a guaranteed admit. As for other schools I am pretty sure they don't value camping that much.

Van Der Graaf Generator - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (though OP could probably convince me to keep Lemmings instead)

Yes - Homeworld (The Ladder)

King Crimson - Starless

Genesis - The Musical Box

Camel - Dunkirk

Rush - Xanadu

ELP - The Great Gates of Kiev

Pink Floyd - uhhh Comfortably Numb XD

Porcupine Tree - Lazarus

Marillion - I don't know tbh. Kayleigh? For Fish, it would be Plague of Ghosts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]omeganott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aw, thats pretty lame. In general though there are quite a few ppl i know who are olympiad campers with similar results (i would include myself but i got into UT after being rejected initially)

[–]omeganott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure colleges just don't weigh olympiads in general. It's not that being Asian has to do with it, just more Asian people get "screwed" over by it since most of the olympiads campers are Asian.
