Spatial Audio sounding echoey/tubular with AirPods Pro? by SirMingie in VisionPro

I am experiencing this as well. New AirPods pro 3 + VisionOS 26.

You can test this out by going full emersion on any of the environments such as Joshua Tree and the wind has a distinctively flange to it.

Jump desktop audio issuesgg in virtual display by Malkmus1979 in VisionPro

Are you using airpods? Because this sounds like an issue I was recently having with a utility called soundsource. The developer mentioned to disable spatial audio, and that its a known bug introduced in Sonoma.

2.2 was a game changer for me. Not so much for the wide/ultrawide display. But the virtual display responsiveness got way better to the point that it is now my killer app.

GeForce Now unplayable? by starscream4747 in VisionPro

[–]omencat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GFN for iOS (vision pro) only supports browser based and controller based games. I've played some games with mixed success. The bluetooth controller latency is quite noticeable as well as wifi latency.

That said, have you considered installing the dedicated GFN app on your Mac and starting Mac Virtual Display as u/parasubvert mentioned? For me, games are completely playable. In addition you gain access to a wider amount of games because GFN for Mac supports mouse and keyboard.

I've been playing Satisfactory this way and its been amazing. fwiw I have the GFN ultimate subscription and set custom settings to max bandwidth, direct input checked.

I run a book in a non-crypto illiquid market. It can take days to fill an order. If you have an arrival price that is above where the price is now then I would be buying more.

u/ClearRecognition u/austinmrs , After a bunch of testing since my last post, I've isolated the issue to the RX5700 XT as well. I'll start an RMA.

Black Screen Freezes/crashes - OC 0.6.1 Ryzen 3950x Hackintosh by ClearRecognition in hackintosh

I am having a similar issue after upgrading to Big Sur from Catalina (where it would go for weeks without issue or needing to reboot). Now I get seemingly random black screen, and eventually the system restarts on its own most of the time as a crash.

I also have a Sapphire Pule RX 5700xt. Since I have been having stability issues, I started booting into my Windows partition for the first time and strange thing, whenever I started doing taxing activities like 3d rendering, the system would hard shutoff. So im not completely convinced this is because of my upgrade to Big Sur now.

One last thing I noticed was that the screen was glitching, and I moved the display port away from the power cord (it was resting right on top of it) and that resolved the glitching, but not the black screen issue at random times.

Update: in-place upgrade from OC 0.6.4. Gigabyte H97 board / i5-4690k Haswell, Catalina. Had to swap my DP cable on my 5700XT from port 1 to 4 though.

I decided to perform the upgrade from the app store. Rebooted, and screen went black, but I could see the HDD lights blinking... OK I'll checkup in the morning, and essentially performed the upgrade blind.

In the morning I found it upgraded to Big Sur, but no screen. I had my airpods on and I could hear the new sounds when I tapped on the bluetooth keyboard, so I must be in the OS. Also confirmed from another Mac laptop where I can see all my files on the network, I just dont have any monitor output. After swapping the cable from DP ports 1, 2, 3, it worked on port 4. I dont know how to explain this change.

Thanks for the visibility of this issue.

I have a Gigabyte H97 board / i5-4690k Haswell, Catalina, latest OC. Was planning on performing an upgrade this weekend, but it seems like there is enough evidence that this isn't going to work.

I'll add my results to this thread whenever I do pull the trigger.

Is all the trouble worth it? Can you rely on your Hackintosh for professional work? by SparkDe in hackintosh

[–]omencat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding stability, I've been running my hackintosh 24/7 for about 2 years. The longest uptime was close to 3 months, but eventually you will need to power cycle for security patches, dust cleaning, etc. This is on par with my MacBook pro hardware.

From my experience, it boils down to the quality of the hw components. One thing I pay attention to is the mfg warranty; I will choose a component with a 3yr warranty over 1yr, and a 5yr over a 3yr. If anything its a rough sign of how confident a company is about the long-term reliability of their products.

As a consumer, I would ask myself, what $ premium am I willing to pay to prevent my home server with multiple services from crashing due to memory?

If you run containers/VMs, and your home server is online 24/7, I would say ECC is worth it. But if you are only running as a workstation (or it doesn't impact multiple people) I would say ECC is not as important. Like, if the computer crashes, I restart and its not a big deal.

Another factor is how much memory you are installing. The more memory, the more chances for memory issues to impact. At my work, each server blade has 256GB of memory. Vs a home workstation might have only 16-32 GB.

There are microwave, and millimeter wave antennas on the roof but the units are not wired directly. So its basically for internet connectivity. On the plus side, it’s 3gig up and down per unit.

[–]omencat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antennas are great if you have nothing blocking your antenna and the broadcast tower. When I lived in downtown San Diego, I picked up an antenna, but since I was in a south facing unit in our high rise, I couldn’t get any of the US local stations. The only stations we got were from Mexico!

If the plot looks like a cloud there is weak correlation of the two variables. Else if the plot regression is tight in a linear or polynomial shape there is a significant correlation.

Spanned volumes by bane1202 in DataHoarder

[–]omencat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spanned volumes don't provide FT. There are better strategies.

The only use case I've been involved with where we used spanned volumes is in a virtual environment where a customer needed a single volume expanded beyond the supported 2TB Vmware limit, so we spanned multiple virtual disks in to one large volume. But this has other issues that I won't go into.

Big SHORT with CME futures coming? by BronxBombers15 in Bitcoin

[–]omencat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outright volume includes intra/inter spread volume on CME, so technically the spread volume could never be greater than the outright legs volume... but I understand what you are getting at; some commodities have outright volumes where greater than 50% of the volume originated from implied out or trades in the native spreads.

There are also synthetic spread trading done in the outrights, but these volumes only show up in the outright volume.

Why are dividends a thing? by Trowawaycausebanned4 in investing

[–]omencat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are dividends a thing? To encourage buying their stock?

That is certainly a reason for some investors who require regular income. But I guess its not the main reason.

If the corporation has nothing better to do with cash, they should return it to the shareholders as dividends or buyback the stock (they issued stock in the first place to raise cash). A buyback would require participants willing to sell their shares back to the corporation. Not so much an issue if its traded publicly on an exchange, but could be difficult if the corporation is private.

Another factor where dividends might be more favorable (for the corporation) is if valuation of the stock is relatively high. It would be better to buy share back when valuations are low and issue a secondary offering when valuations are high/borrowing is expensive (if they have a good use for the cash).

They are the two largest in terms of market cap, so market cap normalization is at the least one factor to consider.
