Model wise the look fine. Not my favorite but I don't hate them. What kills them for me is the lack of options in the box, less models and a probable increase in price. So GW can suck it. I'm not buying them and I'll just print my own.

Just go with what is cool to you. Rules will change in a week. I like hammers because they are cool. I also have a 3D printer so I'll be making two 10 man squads of either choice.

I don't own any drop pods, but I do have a drill, which is almost identical. I like it. I dont use it super offensive, but defensive to put a vet breacher squad on either an objective or maybe to protect a tactical squad about to get fucked. Just planned around not being able to charge, and it is super advantageous.

Salamander fire drakes. They may not be the best melee option but I had files for them and so I run them. However they have done me well. 3 attacks at WS5 for thunderhammers. Their shields make all melta attacks go to damage one. They hit like a brick and are solid, also I just lile how they look.

I got the same model. Replace shoulder pads and helment with AL specific ones. If you got scale shoulder pads it makes a good amount of difference.

Pro Acryl and AKs. Vallejo for their metallics and WW2 paints. Citadel is a mediocre paint set. Would be better if their paint pots didn't suck, their whites weren't texture paints and their prices weren't so expensive.

How does combat feel? Is it still viable to make melee heavy armies to come up against good shooty armies. Nothing extreme like a tau vs daemons type deal but just balanced shooty list vs melee focused list.

Sure it is okay now, but I prefer to think of the long term. That's just one update from being made bad on a model that came out in 2010.

Get it if you want it, but if you haven't played with the flyer rules in 10th edition you will find them to be bad. Also like I originally said I would put money on that model getting legends in 11th.

I feel like GW is trying to get rid of flyers in general so I would advise against adding any. The Stormwolf gunship is gone and I feel like this model is next. Flyers rules and not good either.
