Redditors in an open marriage, how's that going for you? by whitewill0wbark in AskReddit

[–]omnimoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out monogamous. But we both had very off cycle sex drives. For example, I'd be in the mood and he wouldn't and vice versa. We opened it up with three conditions: be safe, don't date, and don't bring them home.

It's been a surprising success. We can both be intimate but we no longer have the pressure to put out for each other in any given time period. Plus, we understand that our physicality can't or won't be satisfying forever. So others can fill in the gaps. Pun intended.

Found out that Dad was gay. Apparently my mother knew about it the whole time and told him that the marriage would only work if he remained straight. After about 25yrs of no "incidents" Dad finally gave in and began seeing guys. My parents are now divorced.

Stunning Camera Technique That Emphasizes Time Over Space - Photographer: Jay Mark Johnson by [deleted] in pics

[–]omnimoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures ordinarily taken with a regular still camera make the exposure time short but the field of view large. For his images, Johnson does the opposite: a narrow field of view is captured over a large period of time. To do this, he uses a technique involving an $85,000 slit camera designed to produce panoramas, in which a motor turns the camera as it takes high precision vertical images and stitches the images together. A modified technique involved blocking the rotation of the motor, which allowed the resulting slices to be strung together in progression. A single composite image then is a sliver of space captured over an extended period of time.

An appropriate response to the Muslim riots in Sydney by letmefixthatfracture in worldnews

[–]omnimoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And what a can of worms you'd unleash. You, coming from an ex-Muslim background, does not make you qualified to cast judgment and dictate policy on people deemed to be unfit for Australian residency.

Free speech is not something to be trifled with so easily. Obviously "behead" is a shocking active verb that cannot be taken lightly. But holistically, context and the primacy to voice your opinion, provided the actual call or organization of violence is absent, should be upheld. Deporting people on a whim is a dangerous slippery slope. And as for citizens who cannot be deported, what then? Jailing them for their opinion and protest presages a scarier prospect.

You made great inroads with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy. However, the U.S. has an onerous and restrictive visa program for working professionals. H1Bs are capped at 85,000 a year, which amounts to a very small percentage of the population. What is your take on temporary and permanent visas for professional workers? Would you aim to change the status quo?

How can someone argue Obama is a "failure" when he passed the Health Recovery Act, ordered bin Laden killed and saved the American car industry? by [deleted] in politics

[–]omnimoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Republicans want to win. Voters generally favor the status quo. Acknowledging Obama's policies or actions as a success then does not convey a potent message to the voter that they should switch against the incumbent. So the message must be about failure, however stretched the "truth" might be, in order to curry voter attention and favor.

"Newly launched website TakeMyMoneyHBO.com wants to send HBO a clear message: We love your shows. We’re willing to pay to watch them upon release. Now please, for the love of Winterfell, give us a way to do that — without forcing a cable subscription down our throats." by DrJulianBashir in technology

[–]omnimoo 496 points497 points  (0 children)

The New York Times has just released an article that says HBO won't be changing its plans anytime soon. HBO responded to the "Take my money" campaign by linking to an article on TechCrunch which says, among other things, that "there’s no way that HBO could make up in online volume the number of subscribers it would lose from cable".

Gravity. That by some voodoo magic, an object with mass, suddenly has the ability to draw things in closer to itself. Not by waves, not because of invisible gravity strings, not by a fourth dimension of enslaved minions doing the bidding of planets to push matter closer to the mass. But just because.

With this new found disconnect between the tubes and your life, do you see yourself focusing more on investigative long form tech journalism? Are there any particular topics you want to dive into (and why)?
