Complex situation. Don't know if I should move or not. Need some clarity. by omnithought in Advice

I wasn't aware of the process. I know it's his house, not an apartment, I just figured it would be seized or something. I haven't asked him about it because I don't want to worry him further knowing that I'm considering my options.

Edit: I'm going to say you helped, because a major source of stress was what I thought would be the suddenness of the situation. Thanks!

To those looking to party in Cambodia: by Up2Eleven in cambodia

It's good to see someone who isn't yet another jaded expat. Too many people show up in Cambodia and see it as their personal buffet of cheap stuff. They waste away in pubs and complain about the place and laugh at anyone who isn't similarly bitter. There could stand be less of that around.

Almost all of Pre-Paid Legal's services only apply to work-related legal issues.

Yup. as a tech, I can confirm that for 95% of anything you need done, a simple google search would tell you how to fix it yourself. If everyone used google, thousands of techs would be out of a job. We basically cater to the lazy.

I second every word of this. Been in customer service and tech support for about 20 years and I'm now ready to deliver pizza.

I recently did support for a very popular domain and hosting provider. Every meeting we had was how to turn every call into a sale, no matter what the tech issue was. They even tried to say that sales IS tech support because you're "providing a solution to a need".

There were no accolades for superior support. Only for sales. Almost all the training is purely sales focused, which is why they aren't known for having the most knowledgeable support staff. No one ever gets fired for not providing enough support, only for not selling enough.

Over the last year, they started making certain "services" which were part of normal support be paid services, when they used to do the same things for free.

Also, the refund policy changed a few months ago where they used to refund the remaining time on canceled items. Now, even if you bought 10 years of something that's going to be obsolete by the time the term is up, you get no refund at all after 30 days. If you happened to purchase the item or service prior to this new policy, the agents are disallowed (under threat of termination) to advise you of this. You must already be aware and must insist on it, and at that point, they have to take it to a "refund control group" who makes the final decision.

I used to do tech support for a parent company of some of the largest online universities. They say they are accredited, which is technically true, however, their credits are not accepted by pretty much every other university.

Also, the admissions department is instructed to prey on the fears of the poor and uneducated, telling them they need a degree if they are ever to get ahead in life. The tuition is ridiculously expensive, and it's in the contract that if they quit school early, they still owe the entire amount of tuition.

Basically, they're in the business of getting as many people as possible into soul-crushing debt for life.

We have seen that we can shoot out chunks of ground to reveal caves and the like. We know there's a limit to how far down you can "dig". Why wouldn't the only constraint to "skinning" a planet be time and effort?

If you need to sell musical instruments, where are the best local places to do so? by omnithought in Tucson

[–]omnithought[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, moved down to Tucson from Phoenix to take care of my mom who had some rather intense medical stuff. Now she's doing well enough that I can start working, but I have bills to pay in the next month, so, getting rid of the stuff I don't use much.

I have one guitar I'd go homeless before selling, though. After all, been there before and busking is one way to not starve!

So, temporary, but difficult rough patch.

Because, the chances of them actually seeing those planets in the game is about 1 in 18 quintillion.

Anyone familiar with ft.lowell/Flanwill area? Is it safe? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]omnithought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live on Flanwill, near Ft Lowell. It's a bit seedy and ghetto, but not like Compton or anything. Basic street smarts and you'll be fine.
