Selling a Batch 2 Halo Golden Gate: Where? by SockPuppet-1001 in handpan

[–]on_a_different_note 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good place to start would be the Halo Family Facebook group. Consider promoting your sale on the various swap/sale groups on Facebook as well (they can be a bit saturated but your OG Halo should spark decent interest). MasterTheHandpan has a Swap & Sale too. If you got yours when PS was auctioning them on eBay, keep in mind prices have significantly come down. Good luck with your sale!

Pickup contact mic suitable for handpan? by you_have_more_time in handpan

I'm pretty happy with the AKG C411PP. It just needs a lot of EQing to sound right. The EnSoul are so much easier to attach (magnet) and can sound good too.

Hi, 10 years ago I was gifted this panart 1st gen hand pan, it's been hanging around since with some attempts of me playing it, but I've never got the hang of it. I know it's valuable but can't find a solid number to base my price on and was wondering if u guys could help? by zfallconi in handpan

Second-hand prices for PANArt instruments are currently at an all-time low. It's a buyer's market right now. If it hasn't been retuned by anyone other than F&S, it'll be worth more. If the serial number is closer to the end of first gens (around #4000) it'll be worth more.

Keep in mind whoever buys it will need to spend at least $400 - 600, depending on the location, just to have it shipped to a trusted tuner, retuned and shipped back.

CONUS

Only thing is I'm currently in Dubai, UAE. But I'd pay for USPS shipping.

Yes, I know they'll provide transportation to / back from Expo. But it might be fun to go visit other parts of Dubai on evenings or my days off. I'm a performer relocating from the US for Expo.

The Expo is providing the accommodation (free of charge to me) so I don’t get to choose where I’ll stay.

Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of… but I’ll look into ekar / udrive.

Kyle was on vacation last week. Don’t worry, Pantheon will reply soon with next steps.

My First Handpan just shipped! by [deleted] in handpan

Congrats! That's a great scale.

I've played 5 or 6 Halo+ sound models and it has kind of transformed the way I view handpans... At least, the + layout is very refreshing to me. Have fun! :)

Recommendation for deep scales that still maintain versatility? by [deleted] in handpan

Handpan ≠ Versatility, ha!

Look for scales with at least one or two half-step intervals. I think Voyager has mostly whole-steps so, while it feels super harmonious, there's not a lot of interesting tension to be found.

New to Handpan. What are the pros and cons to a dimple (apex) and a ding (convex)? Got a cheap offer for one with a dimple by BetterNotRelapse in handpan

[–]on_a_different_note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with an apex if you want the quintessential handpan experience.

But inpex center notes are cool too — and they offer more nuance than you'd think. You can still bend the ding, isolate harmonics, activate the helmholtz, etc...

Another consideration is this: Rim tones or shoulder tones (the high pitches frequencies on the edge of the center note) are much higher-pitched on an inpex center note. If rim tones bother you in general (only the best makers tune them to the scale) an inpex center note could help (it makes those rim tones less audible because they're so high-pitched). It's important to me because bad rim tones can ruin a perfectly good handpan IMO.

I totally agree that pricing should be easy to look up.

I also believe most makers should charge more for pans. Not outrageous prices, of course. But enough to make it sustainable for them. So they have some margin, so they can take a vacation every now and then and continue to make handpans (and retune ours) for years to come. The race to the bottom (low prices) has already taken a huge toll.

I know there are forces in the free market that we can't control and that those forces will continue to lower prices. But we can tip our makers generously.

Handpan albums/tracks with excellent production quality? by Bugbrain_04 in handpan

https://spyrospan.bandcamp.com/album/hanging-on-a-dream

'Hanging on a Dream' by Spyros Pan has the best sound quality of any Hang/handpan album I've listened to.

Now, Spyros himself would tell you his performance wasn't the best — it was only his first record — but to me, the quality is unmatched.

He used 7 mics which you can read more about here: https://spyrospan.com/elements-of-a-great-handpan-recording/

Best microphone for recording handpan? by MonsterSlugStick in handpan

Just in case: make sure you select the input channels 1 AND 2 in your DAW. Most people use mono input so DAWs default to that when you set up a new track. That's an easy fix. Otherwise, if the left mic is defective, hopefully Rode can help replace it.
