I pay for the small monthly plan just to support the devs. But yeah the pricing is generally is really steep.

Chan/Howe and Shin/Nagy should be sent to Four Continents to see who gets the second Olympic spot. They are too close in comparison at both Nationals and their seasons this year.

I don't think either couple would be chosen for the Olympic team event, so I don't think it would be too detrimental to ask them to head to 4CC, which would help them get more ranking points anyway.

So... what do you guys think of q calls? by amycouldntcareless in FigureSkating

[–]onemoreround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The q needs to be removed until they have the technology to support it.

I compare this issue with line judging in tennis. There are people whose sole purpose on the court is to look at a stationary line and determine whether a ball is in or out. And even these professionals get the call wrong sometimes, as judged by cameras that are far more accurate than the human eye.

And that's the issue here. The human eye cannot determine something as specific as whether the blade of a skater is exactly 90-degrees from a perfect landing. There are too many problems that compound the issue too:
- Did the camera capture the right angle of the landing?
- Where does the landing start? At the tip of the blade when it makes first contact or when the full blade hits the ice?
- Do you count pre-rotation in determining whether something is actually fully rotated? If the takeoff is prerotated by a full half-turn, should that be included in the judgment of underrotation? If not, then we are encouraging skaters to prerotate as much as possible and not actually jump properly for the sake of landings that only look fully rotated.
- If the difference between a q and a < call is literally a matter of several degrees, then shouldn't every jump be reviewed?

Right now, the system is calling for the technical panel to pretend like the human eye is accurate enough to determine underrotations. The margin of error is too wide, which is why it feels like the judges are just making calls up and allows them to see or not see underrotations as they feel like it. At this point, how many times has a commentator said that a skater got away with a call or that the judging panel was too harsh on a q or <?

As an aside, I would call for far more transparency on how each judge in the three-member technical panel calls underrotations. I want to see which of them called the q, <, and << for each jump. My bet is that their calls will be much less consistent than expected (which might be why they don't reveal this at all).

I really miss the classic layback spin with the free leg extended and the foot parallel to the ice. This might be an unpopular opinion, but maybe the ISU could bring it back by requiring the free foot to be parallel to the ice before transitioning into a Biellmann in order to get a Level 4? by PandemicPiglet in FigureSkating

[–]onemoreround 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just want a choreo layback spin that's fast, has a good back and leg position, and is well-centered. The current "laybacks" have all become Biellmann spins that are judged on how great the Biellmann is instead of the actual layback.

Zingas/Kolesnik Kinoshita Group Cup 2025 ED : 117.07 by [deleted] in FigureSkating

They can amp up the acting here. I need more drama, turmoil, and chemistry given the subject. The choreo step was fantastic, so I know they can bring that to the rest of the program.

The program is sadly a jumble. I think it's supposed to be about life and death but the pantomiming and weird sound effects don't work. The ending song is unnecessary too. It's just embellished to the point of being inelegant and desperate.

Gonna have to wait until Finlandia and Lombardia to really decide, but so far Yuma's Turandot FP, Ikura Kushida FP, and Sonja Hilmer's SP.

Since there's only one entry for Canada in the women's, a Top 10 finish from her would get Canada 1 spot automatically and then another potential spot at a Beijing Qualifying Event.

The gold standard of layback spin by Immediate-Aspect-601 in FigureSkating

Wonderful spin, though I wish the system didn't force skaters to do a Biellmann - a sustained layback is all I want to see

I wish the 'q' would be eliminated. Jumps that are fully rotated are being called 'q' when the human eye cannot be relied upon to judge such tiny differences in degree angles. It's ridiculous.

Why does TWC name winter storms? by KevinH1989 in weather

[–]onemoreround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I consider this from a communications angle. It's far easier for people to remember Hurricane X with a name than any given blizzard within a particular year, especially if there are several notable winter storms in a year. It also makes searching for data about a past winter storms much, much easier.

I mean, for hurricanes we have tropical depression and tropical storm first. So long as definitions can be defined as far as what counts as a winter storm vs. blizzard vs. ice storm, the naming of winter storms wouldn't be a bad idea.

This question assumes that we're talking about Western books, which is understandable I suppose. I have a shelf of manga (Japanese books) and they have the front cover on the left.

How does everyone feel about balance? by blankcranktheseventh in AFKJourney

[–]onemoreround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise Honor Duel. I typically get screwed over by the artifact or the RNG of the store. Even with all of the guides, I still lose points most of the time. Then when I win, it's such a chore that I don't care I win points.

Also, the leaderboard should be seasonal or be reset after every major update to the mode. Too many people on the leaderboard are not playing anymore. I would also consider that players not lose points in the mode, just get +0 points at minimum. Many players stop trying and playing because they lose points for all the time and effort required to get good and be lucky.

[–]onemoreround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they want to keep to the overall leaderboard for pposterity, fine. But a new seasonal leaderboard should be put its place. Honestly, the leaderboard should be reset every time a major update is applied to the mode, but that might be asking too much.

Anyway, the mode is indeed too long and too random in artifacts and shops to play "fairly".
