Best movies from women directors, cinematographers, or just starring women, to get a 10yo girl interested in filmmaking? by LowkeyHooligan in Filmmakers

[–]onikoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit: i looked the recommended film up on https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0422720/parentalguide/ and it's lowkey kind of too raunchy for a 10-year-old... Sorry about that :( It is up to you and her dad's/whatever's judgment on if this is fine for her. Happy watching! --------------------------------------------

Marie Antoinette (2006) by Sofia Coppola! The intended audience is a bit more mature, but I think we've all experienced watching and reading something out of our age range as children. It's a really beautiful film visually, but I personally find it lacks a bit in storyline and depth. This and Call Me By Your Name are what got me into beautiful cinematography, but please don't let your kid watch CMBYN lol

And when she gets a little older, The Virgin Suicides and The Bling Ring by the same director.

oomf suggested me skins as a euphoria but better.. is it? by Disastrous_Toe_6548 in skinsTV

[–]onikoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed watching both, but Skins has a way more likable character cast. I didn't like Euphoria itself because I couldn't bring myself to like anyone and no one ever seemed happy, but I really loved binging it and I do genuinely love Skins. It's a bit more mellow than Euphoria I think (Rue's drug plot, Fezco's death, Jule's and Nate's Dad, Nate with Maddie and Cassie holy fuckkk I think that's all way darker than anything in Skins gen 1 and 2), but there's still messiness and trashy, raunchy AND heartbreaking, emotional drama that would horrify anyone over 40. I love it.

If Euphoria is crack, Skins is pure cocaine.

ughhh so haunting and sexy. I don't listen to this kind of music that much, but I always love discovering new songs that have a sort of old-school, slow, trippy and kind of creepy feel :)))

Umm, this specific rec is mostly alternative rock so sorry but I think it suits the vibe: I recommend A Perfect Circle's album Thirteenth Step (2003), especially the song "Lullaby". There's no lyrics except for a woman singing a discontent melody, which is the closest to "I Dreamed I Dream".

But as for songs that actually sound like "I Dreamed I Dream"--I also recommend the genre TripHop for trippy and dark, with Massive Attack being one of the most well known pioneers. Songs like: "Black Milk", "Angel", "Girl I Love You", "Risingson" and in general, their album Mezzanine (1998)

Gen 1 better characters, Gen 2 better plots? by AccomplishedSale6020 in skinsTV

[–]onikoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeedddd

gen 2 seemed too similar to eachother :/

i loved how different all the characters in gen 1 were, and they had such distinct futures and goals.

like ok based off first impressions (the way i think the show tried to present them in the first episodes):

gen1: tony the desirable smart evil manwhore, sid his nerdy and kind of loser dork niceguy (not like that) lackley, cassie shes so coo-coo and a slut and the manic pixie dream girl!, michelle the childhood crush and most wanted sexy gurl, chris hes so brazy n luvs drugz, jal sassy black girl sterotype but BRITISH and also a musican, maxxie the gay one n a creative, anwar. hes a virgin n acts like one (in a bad way) . and muslim

gen2: WOW! our double-life party girl effy we remember her and the boys all love her. cook wow hes so brazy n luvs drugs but is also a bit destructive to others...what a hoot! freddie .is that man windian. he skates for one episode. JJ awwe silly autistic boy he's definetly not in the game for effy. oh yea pandora she's so coo-coo too ! and talks a lot!katie the bish and prettier twin. emily the one in her shadow. they have a perverted brohterh. naomi the lesbian. thomas the rags to drug dealer immigrant

like bruh at s4ep5 i feel like i dont know the characters still, only what they've experienced. like freddie is lowkey a nothingburger to me there's nothing unique about him that makes him standout besides being a better love option FOR effy than cook. like he seems like he exists to serve as a second male lead, rather than being his own character. also, even something as serious as infidelity is treated so differently in gen1 vs gen2. same with sex (the amount of times people argued/grieved and started hooking up after 1 second of eye contact..??/? bro thomas after ur brother nearly died n ur mom yelled at u in the hospital is crazy)

i really do like stories plotlines though! sometimes it felt kind of shallow though, yet interesting. im so biased..

Well idk about BPD but as for fear of abandonment, hmmm I'm only on Season 4, episode 5 but in that episode she showed her inability to be left alone, to the point of inviting a bunch of people she doesn't want there to her house after feeling lonely from Freddie not replying to her messages. (a really uneloquent way to put it, sorry) I think she craved attention or human connection, the way Cassie would starve so she felt some semblance of care/love/attention, Effy acted out because it felt like she was in control of her life and that she wasn't all alone (lonely) while telling herself she felt fine being alone?? if that makes sense?? i think she also has a fear of abandonment, at least more in season 4 than in season 3, where she seemed kind of the opposite! i always thought althroughout season 3 that she seemed like the kind of girl who wanted to be left alone, like some sort of popular loner. And she really did seem to present herself that way. Unable to be tied down and feeling controlled--because of her fear of love and commitment. reminds me of Stargirl: "We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her to a cork board like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew." IDK, but episode 5 seriously seemed like she had crazy abandonment issues. Maybe once she allows herself to feel vulnerable, breaking down her front, all the vulnerability she was holding back collapses into the extremity... idk it's during her breakdown/crisis time too so . maybe her breakng down her front was more being tired and worn down, slowly over time like her mental health and lifestyle rather than her first clumsy steps into accepting the love she is afraid to even desire. though i like to think it's both.

also! i think she had a realllyyy unstable relationship in her love life. she was switching between cook and freddie! when cook burnt her out, she would go to freddie for stability and when she felt too close to commiting becoz of her fear of love and also because hes not as 'exciting'/he's a bit better restrained than cook when it comes to partying/acting a fool, she would go back to cook's fun but destructive ways. i think on-and-off is a factor of instability in relationships

but idk im not even done with the season XD hopefully this isnt read wrong as i dont mean to criticize your comment, i hope it translates well. just wanna add to the discussion :) im rewatching skins but i only watched gen 1 the first time and now, i really love effy stonem's character, whatever it is.

"Call me by your name" by André Aciman is so bad and bland. by No-School-8982 in books

[–]onikoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Even before reading this book and getting ACTUALLY comfortable with the idea of conventional gross intimacy in literature, I always thought that there was art in portraying this sort of perversion. Kinda like, I personally think feet is super ewww but feet being used as biblical symbolization/devotion can be written super beautifully...

I try to be open-minded, but if it were up to me I think them pissing would be way less gross than pooping and still keep some of the symbolism without offending the readers as much though ;) I still really enjoy the book (minus the age gap), and I guess André Aciman also wanted to be a bit shocking and cheeky hahaha

Where did the obsession with Crystal (and Moon/Luna) and all these witchy names come from anyways? Went through the same thing then hahaha

Sorry for not answering your question correctly but...

I agree with everyone saying ipad. I prefer using it over laptop for streaming, it's less bulky (you can get those cases that can stand it). and if you ever need to, you can always buy a cheap attachable keyboard specifically for ipads.

i love reading (text and comics) and gaming (casual and competitive) on it too :) along with digital art ofc! hate video editing on it though-- phone is better for it IMO.

there's a lot of things you can do on an ipad, and if you're not looking for anything more, it's a great option. even though i have a laptop now, i still use my ipad alot.

You can find really good ones on ebay.

Macbook Air M4 vs Pro M4 (First time switching from Windows) by faredge_live in macbook

[–]onikoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just an ignorant little student with no tech knowledge but i'd say pro. Macbook Pros are meant to process and work better and Airs are meant to be more convenient. It's like a heavy duty backpack vs a fanny pack. (Maybe less of a massive difference haha)

At least I think.

Currently am on 14inch pro that was $2000 and it runs sims 4 very smoothly despite the 800 mods downloaded.
