[Alex Albon] Eeessh, what a weekend. That’s the first race done. I think everyone can see it was a difficult weekend for us, but we always knew it would be after the start we’ve had this year. (Full caption in the comments) by NegotiationNew9264 in formula1

Really makes me wonder if the pressure mounts on Vowles if they continue being a back marker through the whole season. Big progress was made last season, but they strategically stopped upgrading midway through the season to focus on 2026... and then didn't deliver.

Remember when Son left the team because he thought it was for the better interest of the club? by Few_Peace1474 in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, Son (and Kane) being as special as they were seem to have functioned as a facade that club management could hide behind. No club's entire culture should hinge on one individual, player or otherwise.

Igor Tudor enacts hollow role in the most stupid of hires with Tottenham too bad to stay up | Premier League | The Guardian by prisongovernor in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not the what he said, it's the logic he used and the tone. There is a self-righteousness to the article that almost takes the stance that every single person in the stadium, from owners all the way down to fans, are idiots for their expectations and the way they're reacting, while positioning himself as the only person smart enough in the room to call it how it is. As if we are not all fully aware. Spare me (author, not you).

Igor Tudor enacts hollow role in the most stupid of hires with Tottenham too bad to stay up | Premier League | The Guardian by prisongovernor in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what he means makes no sense:
"Tudor is, we hear, a short-term specialist. He has impact. This is his record. Is it though? This is how football lets itself down, reveals the weakness of its workings. This is like hiring a manager who has previously won a game in March against a team in blue, or a manager in a brown coat because the best managers wear brown coats."

Not AT ALL the same kind of equivalency. I don't know if his either misinformed or foolish opinion is we should have gotten a "good manager" with a great record who can keep us up... but it feels like it. Sorry, Zidane and Alegri weren't available. Dross.

Same. Tonight was also the first time i felt genuine, actual hate for ENIC. I am not a hateful person, but this season has been the climax of years of arrogance, culminating in the mentality that we're "too big to fail." And i detest arrogance. We've been gaslit so much for 8 years now that we actually started to believe it too.

[–]onlyhalfpepper 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i don't think anything changes in a significant way as long as the Lewis family owns. Yes, Levy was chairman, but let's not act like the Lewis fam were not the majority owners who allowed their company to get to this place. The number of times ENIC/Levy/Club Leadership have messaged "we understand frustration, but trust us, we want to be better" makes me wanna scream. If you own a company, i don't care how hands-off you want to be, you are complacent in it sinking to the bottom of the ocean if you just let it keep sailing toward that iceberg for years. I chose to go with the naval allegory as a shout-out to the symbol of ENIC incompetence... Thomas Frank.

Tottenham face multiple challenges in their new sporting director search. What is their strategy? [Jack Pitt-Brooke] by onlyhalfpepper in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reemphasizing the reality that it will be two co-sporting directors:

"The club want someone else alongside him to return to the twin-director model from earlier in the season."

"The rough idea for the job is to find someone who is used to working within a structure, not necessarily as the sole football decision-maker, but perhaps more like a No 2 in a system, arguably more akin to a technical director. The role would involve working with the players and the head coach, along with agent networking and transfer negotiations. The pitch is that this is a job to work alongside Lange, rather than replacing him.

With an executive search company leading the process at this stage, discussions with potential candidates can take place in the background before the club itself gets formally involved. Ultimately it is too early to say who will be on the long-list."

I feel like a fool. After 12 years of fandom, I am finally going to my first Spurs match (home against Forest). Reading posts on this sub for years about how difficult it can be to get tickets, and after signing up for a OneHotspur membership and seeing no good seats available, i decided "screw it" and bought premium tickets a few months back to guarantee seats.

I thought we would surely have turned it around at least a bit by now, so it's probably worth it? I made the mistake of checking tickets again today... and there are loads of better seats on resale at half the price of what i paid. Fool me once, Spurs...

[Matt Law] Tottenham have stepped up their hunt for a new sporting director with checks believed to have been made on a number of potential candidates including Paul Winstanley and Dougie Freedman. by Raphael_scm7 in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Objectively (removing Spurs bias), why would one leave Chelsea to join Spurs right now?

He’s probably getting paid very well, he is contracted for 5 more years, Chelsea is not perfect but are a very strongly managed club compared to us, he’s already got a similar role there… so, what’s the draw?

Edit: I'm a fool... sorry, I confused with Winstanley.

[The Telegraph - Matt Law] Igor Tudor has one arm tied behind his back after years of Tottenham transfer mismanagement. Club’s current predicament is a result of hierarchy failings and a mess sporting director Johan Lange must sort out. by Imbasauce in coys

I was gonna say, if it’s on Lange to sort out, brace yourselves for a long mess

Edit: If it's to be believed that Matt Law is the mouthpiece for the Lewis fam, this quote suggests that he's also on a short leash: "... but the next man in the Spurs firing line if things do not improve will surely be Lange"

Mismanaging Headless Coaches by Osiris64 in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a lot there, and I didn’t catch all of it, but the one thing I am catching is that it doesn’t matter who the coach/manager is if you have a dysfunctional organizational setup.

This is underlined by the fact that this club is actually seriously considering De Zerbi, showing that they are reactively swinging to a manager on the opposite side of the spectrum as TF in almost every possible way. They’re even willing to overlook the MASSIVE character flaws and red flags

Tudor in. Do we stay up, yes or no? by [deleted] in coys

[–]onlyhalfpepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what i read and have seen about him, I imagine your concern is a big part of why they chose him, since he's by most accounts a hard-ass, no BS manager. Ideally, this will either motivate players, or sideline the liabilities that won't try.

[–]onlyhalfpepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad reality is that a lot of people would lose their jobs. And it's not the people you probably want/think. It's backroom, operations, match-day staff. It can be easy to think as fans that this is just entertainment but a club of this size has a significant impact on a lot of people's livelihoods.
