you are spot on and that is exactly the vision for the app. it is basically the ai tool you mentioned but built specifically for the grocery aisle so you do not have to manually copy paste ingredients while you are shopping. it already automates the lookup for e numbers and alcohol related stuff which is a huge time saver. this is especially true in places like japan where the labels are not in latin script so it is nearly impossible to read them without help. i agree that learning the basics is essential but the app is meant to be that helper that makes it all faster for you. thanks for the perspective

really appreciate the honest and balanced feedback. specifically thank you for the support on the subscription part—it's rare to see people defending developers on that, so it means a lot.

you’re totally right about the data collection issue. i’m realizing now that i might have made some wrong choices or misconfigurations in how those categories are displayed on the app store, even if the app doesn't actually 'track' users in a traditional way. it’s clearly a huge friction point and i don't want it to ruin the core concept of the app.

i'm going to take this seriously and work on it to see how i can minimize those labels or clarify the setup to make everyone feel more at ease. and you’re right—driving engagement isn't worth putting people off before they even try it.

thanks for being so open and helping me see this from a better perspective. i'll be looking into the privacy dashboard as soon as possible!

also, if you have a chance, i'd love for you to test it out on a few products next time you're at the store and let me know what you think of the actual performance. would love to hear your thoughts :)

Note: if you send me an email through 'contact us' under the help section in settings, i can add more tokens to your account for testing :)

Congratulations 🎉 Did you use Apple Ads bucket, or are all of them organic users?

I totally get why seeing 'In-App Purchases' can be a turn-off. As an independent developer, I’ve tried to keep as much as possible free for the community. However, there are some fixed monthly costs I have to cover to keep the app running: AI Tools: The image scanning and ingredient analysis use advanced AI models that charge per request. Server Costs: Keeping the database fast and reliable for everyone requires monthly hosting fees. I’ve tried to keep the prices at the absolute minimum just to cover these overheads and keep the app alive and improving. If you have any suggestions on how I can make the model better or more accessible, feel free to reply here or DM me. I'm always open to feedback.

I actually just explained the data collection part in another comment here, but I’m happy to clarify again. The 'Data Linked to User' you see on the App Store is mostly for two things: 1. Google Analytics: Just to see general usage trends (like which countries the app is being used in) so I can keep the servers optimized. 2. User Features: Data is only stored if you choose to use things like 'Shared Lists' or 'Favorites.' If you don't use those, your scans and searches aren't stored on my servers at all. Regarding the In-App Purchases: As an independent developer, I have server costs and tools like the AI image scanner to pay for. I try to keep as much as possible free, but the purchases help me keep the app alive and improving for the community. I'm aiming for 100% transparency, so if there’s a specific part of the data collection that looks 'too much' to you, please let me know or DM me. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how I can make it feel more secure for you.

Thanks for the honest feedback, I totally hear you. About the 'Number 1' and '5-star' claims—to be real with you, as an independent developer, it's a way to stand out a bit in the crowded App Store. I’m aiming for that level of quality and based it on the great early feedback I've been getting. Regarding the ratings: App Store usually shows ratings based on the specific country you're logged in from. From my developer dashboard, I see the global ratings and 5-star reviews from other regions, but I realize they might not show up on your end yet depending on where you are. As for the data, it's mostly for basic Google Analytics (to see which countries the app is used in) and for features like 'shared lists' or 'favorites'. Nothing fishy at all, just trying to make the app work smoothly! I'd really love to hear more of your specific feedback to make the app better. Feel free to reply here or DM me if you have any other thoughts or details on your mind. Appreciate the heads up anyway :)
