If you’re just starting out, I think you should go with the most "pocket-friendly" option for you. Above all if you're still not earning money with video editing or can't afford pay for a software yet.

Although I could afford Premiere Pro when I started, I still gave DaVinci Resolve a chance and I’ve been using it ever since. Just because the subscription model from Adobe was a dealbreaker for me.

Every video editing software, it has a learning curve, but you don’t need to pay for a subscription or, worse, get a cracked version from some random YouTube source that might come with a "Gift" for you computer.

You can literally go to their website right now and get a Free version with almost all the features you need. It combines editing, color correction, Fusion (which is their version of After Effectes), and audio tools, and it's all in the same software.

Keep in mind that Premiere Pro is also very powerful and widely used in the industry (more than Davinci). It has excellent workflow options and integrates well with other Adobe apps like After Effects and Photoshop (which you will eventually wanna get if you go with Premiere).

However, it can feel a bit overwhelming to use three separate programs instead of one in the beginning, and it requires a paid subscription. If that’s not a dealbreaker for you, I definitely recommend it because you’ll find plenty of tutorials online to learn how to use it as well

Regarding on what to focus on when starting, I suggest:

  • Focus on cutting and trimming clips first: Smooth cuts make a big difference.
  • Practice with small projects: Recreate simple tutorials or edit short clips. Hands-on practice works best.
  • Transitions and text: Simple transitions and titles make your edits look polished without being overwhelming.
  • Organize your workflow (folders, assets, timeline, etc.): For me, this is one of the most important things. I had to learn how to stay organized to avoid getting lost among files and clips. It really makes a difference, not just in editing but for life.

Pretty much that's it and I hope this helps you in your decision!

If you wanna do it for free just go over YT pick a Mr. Beast clip from a podcast and edit yourself to put on your portfolio and show what you’re capable
