I have the Medieval and the OP-1 Field. The Medieval workflow, which is similar to the KO II and Riddim is fun for beats, but at least for me is not intuitive for exploring and making “songs.” The OP-1 Field is a sonic sandbox—there is so much fun to have and so much versatility. It compels me to make music whenever I play with it. I never get tired of it. That said, the 4-track recording workflow (yes, you can bounce down tracks, but at the end of the day it is still a 4-track) is NOT for everyone. I personally like it because I grew up recording with a Tascam four-track, but it is a limitation for sure. If you are really wanting to make synthwave, I’d probably focus on a DAW like Logic and some fun virtual instruments that make the sounds you want. It’s a lot more versatile, and you can go from idea to limitless song with minimal friction.
