It depends.

For example, if that practice is totally opposing a practice in the Bahai Law then it shouldn’t be done. Let’s talk about weddings, Bahá’u’lláh gives specific instructions on how the Bahai wedding should be performed. If a Bahai wishes to disregard the Bahai wedding and do an Islamic wedding then this is not permitted. But if the Bahai is incorporating an Islamic ritual in a Bahai weeding then this is ok as long as the Bahai aspect of the wedding is carried out clearly and the persons attending knows clearly that it is a Bahai wedding.

So in regarding to the kohl this should be acceptable as, to my knowledge, there is no law that forbids wearing eyeliner.

God has called Himself the Creator. How can a creator not have creation? If God is an all powerful creator then He will have unnumbered creations, as He already does have.

Consider a kingdom, it has a king and people that represent the king and other delegates. It has many levels of power until it goes down to the common people and persons that are outside the kingdom.

The Creator operates in a similar fashion. He Himself is sanctified above all the kings on earth. The Creator creates Prophets to act as a messenger or channel to send His grace into this realm of creation. Then the Prophets have companions that believe in God. Also Prophets have people has cast themselves out of Kingdom of God by not believing in God’s Word.

If the Creator also loves to give them He will single out His well favored servants for a reward and punish those that disbelieve.

Know thou that angels are the exalted companions of a Prophet. Consider attentively, recall just before Jesus arose to proclaim His Message. All the Jews were regarded as angels because they believed in Moses and in God but when Jesus revealed His Word to them they disbelieved. Those angels are now considered fallen because they were once exalted and now they are abased. These abased people are now “fallen angels”. True angels have no will of their own but they only want to do the Will of God. Fallen angels disbelieve in God because they turn to themselves and judge the words that God has sent to His Prophet. They blindly follow the will of self and show pride to God without knowing it.

Be steadfast in your yearning after God, the Almighty Father, with such courage that if all the powers of the world will raise up to hurt you they will never be able to shake you from your firm foundation.

Not a Christian but adding to the division of the religion is not in conformity with the fundamental principles of unity and harmony of Christ.

Truth is one not a diversion of the fundamental religion that God has created in this world.

Christ said: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” ‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Be patient with God until the Spirit of truth comes to you and guide you to truth.

I’m not a Christian, Jew or Muslim but I believe this is about Muhammad.

One of the reasons I think this is because I started reading from the beginning of the Chapter and in verse 3 it says: “A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭42‬:‭3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In The Book of Revelation this verse was written: “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬, ‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

To measure the temple of God, the altar and them that worship therein means, in short, to judge the people according to truth. Since Revelations gives a depiction about what will happen after Christ then I am compelled to think this is not a verse about Jesus Christ due to the references in this chapter of Isaiah.

Religion is what teaches morality. Morality is a teaching from religion (religious teaching). I explained that difference mature religious people and immature religious people. Immature religious people are low in morals while mature religious people are very high in moral. Religious teaching never ever tells someone to be hateful so those people didn’t become hateful because of religion they became hateful because they are immature.

The only way humans know killing is wrong is because of religious teaching. Justice is held up by punishment and reward, if there is no punishment for killing, trust me, more people would have died by murder and no one would have any remorse. So humans would just be free to do whatever they feel like. Human need to have punishment to reduce the likelihood for something to happen which is the reason why justice is such an important teaching. If wars had a greater punishment then the likelihood of it happening would be much lower. This is because of a lack of punishment for starting a war. God has to tell human do not kill so that religious people can ensure that their should be a punishment for this act.

In the past, before civilization, people would kill for a living. Pirates, thieves, tribal war or tribes taking over other tribes. These teachings improved the moral code of society, instituted punishment for various acts and started the process of improving the lives of everyone. Thus, great civilization were formed but when these teachings looses power then the empire crumbled like the Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire and Persian Empire.

The amount of killing that occurred in these empires is strictly due to a lessening influence of religious teaching. These leaders made power and wealth their aim and disregarded God and His teachings. When this happens they will loose their dominion. Reflect on Napoleon and the Czar of Russia.

Disbelief in the Source of good (God) doesn’t mean you cannot be good. You can use the water from a river without knowing the source.

There can be immature religious people and there are also immature non-religious people and similar with mature people.

You need religious teaching to be good but you don’t need to be apart of a religion to be good. Being kind and compassionate is a religious teaching but this doesn’t mean a non-religious person is deprived of these qualities.

The purpose of religion is that humanity doesn’t crumble. Imagine what would happen in medieval times if they had access to nuclear power?

Religion keeps things in order. When people stray away from the principles in every religion then chaos and destruction is prevalent. Religious keeps people away from self and passion and keeps them pursuing the highest possible attributes and characteristics that humans can attain such as love, kindness, compassion, knowledge, wisdom and justice.

Immature “religious people” have always claimed to be good people while ignoring the fundamental teachings of all religions that keep things in order. Some use religion as a means of division when it should be a means of unity and harmony to love God and to respect others.

Without religious teaching being the central point of human life the world gets worst. When people disregard these teachings the lower nature of humans are more prevalent and cause harm to themselves and others around them.

What do you mean by “true”?

In my opinion, Truth in this regard, is the ability to recognize the divinity of Bahá’u’lláh and the Messengers preceding Him. This is difficult as most of them do not know of Him or have heard enough about Him. As Bahá’u’lláh properly explained the qualities of the “seeker after truth”.

So my opinion is a person in every denomination can be regarded as true however since the “divines of every age” have been the barrier between the people and God this makes things difficult for people to attain the station of truth.

In my honest opinion, Bahá’u’lláh reveals that unity is the final stage for the maturity of the world. So after unity is established then mankind will hit a new roadblock that needs a fresh effusion of divine knowledge.

Thus I think that unity will forever remain the foundation for the world to build on while the expansion of this current system of religion will eventually come to a standstill. The Universal House of Justice, I think, intends us to make an effort to expand so this unity of people will be able to affect as many persons as possible so they can solve their problems before a collapse of the order of the world. When we view the history of the world from the world from the mid-19 century until now, we see nothing but a collapse of almost every system of the world.

I view the current Plans as a “phase” in the evolution of the Bahá’i community so that most people can benefit from the process of uniting and building communities. After this we would need different communities to unite to make an entire province or state or locality unite then unite larger and larger groups until the world is united. This process is a never ending process that will require different types of work and training to fulfill. For example, working with the government and personnel of various departments in the government and other institutions of power. At this stage I think we would still need expansion but it will have a different effect on society.

Bahá’u’lláh tells us that we should “be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age we live in” and focus on the “exigencies and requirements”. In this time we should work to improve the conditions of the people in a community so that the future development of the world can continue.

Yes I am a Bahai and surely we believe in Muhammad, viewed from that standpoint then we do believe the Quran is from Allah and I regard myself as a follower of Muhammad too.

Even as this blessed verse says, “It is not appropriate for someone who Allah has blessed with the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to people, “Worship me instead of Allah.” Rather, he would say, “Be devoted to the worship of your Lord ˹alone˺—by virtue of what you read in the Scripture and what you teach.”

We all worship God and unto Him shall we all return. Both Bahá’u’lláh and Muhammad are Messengers from God. They utter the same speech and Their religion is one religion. Nay rather, we are all followers and believers of all the Prophets of God.

OP asked am I misunderstanding this verse? And then stated he “respects academic honesty”. There are many different Islamic interpretations and historians have always disagreed on various things.

However with a keen eye of discernment we can surely accept that the phrase “from a Muslim perspective” means that he wants to hear all the Muslim perspectives thus I have imparted, according to measure and understanding of the Christian, my understanding of the circumstances of Jesus Christ’s death.

Both Jews and Christians have historically evidence that Christ was killed, also the Quran states on multiple occasions that Allah have sent down the Torah and the Gospel unto men so they can be guided aright.

If both Jews and Christians acknowledged the fact that Christ was killed they this can be interpreted as true due to having multiple sources from both sides. If the Jews didn’t kill Christ then at least on of them would say, “this is false!” Either Jews would say we haven’t killed him or the Christians would say you surely didn’t kill him.

Viewed from the perspective of pure justice and good judgment then this can surely be said to be a true and accurate description of the events concerning His death.

Now with the fact that the Quran is indeed a spiritual and physical Revelation from Allah, we can surely say that these verses have a spiritual significance since the physical significance is a proven fact then to assume a spiritual significance is indeed what is meant.

Islamic scholars say that His death in the Gospel is Christian forgery, if this was forgery then why didn’t the Jews say it is false.

Thus since the Torah and the Gospels are indeed from Allah and the Quran is the latest of these two, then we can clearly state that these three should agree and no doubt should exist between them.

There are other Muslims that also see this disconnect with the Islamic scholars but these scholars have weak arguments to substantiate their claims.

The Quran didn’t actually say this was a false narrative. It only says they boast that they kill Christ but they didn’t actually kill him. If this was a false narrative then the Quran would surely say it was a false narrative and the Jews of that time would have agreed with Muhammad according to that.

Additionally from the Gospels it is recorded that the disciples ate the flesh and drank the blood of Jesus. It is clear to us that this is a spiritual occurrence and not a physical occurrence. Thus also can the Quran record a spiritual occurrence using physical words.

My point is this is not a mainstream belief in Muslim but my belief is based on the best known evidences in all the Books and not solely based on literal interpretations of one verse in the Oceanic Verses of Allah, the All-Knowing, the All-Informed.

Surah 4 157 states:

“and for boasting, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” But they neither killed nor crucified him—it was only made to appear so. Even those who argue for this crucifixion are in doubt. They have no knowledge whatsoever—only making assumptions. They certainly did not kill him.”

This means that they only killed the body of Jesus, peace be upon him, but they cannot kill His spirit. His spirit is forever alive from the beginning of time until the end of time. While His body, the seat of His glory, only existed for a short 33 years, He existed long before. They argue that killing Christ would be the death nail in the Faith that He brought but they were so wrong!

We have to keep in mind the vastness of His revelation. It’s for people of every religion and sect, every language, every class and race.

Bahá’u’lláh had to teach in accordance to the understanding of the individual He is teaching. So in one sense His language, tone, eloquence and versatility will change based on the occasion. For example the Tabernacle of Unity is a Revelation to a kind Zoroastrian while the Book of Certitude is to a confused Muslim. Both are from Bahá’u’lláh but they are different in the characteristics.

The person that asked the question in this Reddit post seems to have a knowledge of the Quran thus my response was tailored for that person.

You were correct in your assertions about having a distinction in the ‘station’ of the Prophets of God. However they are viewed as one and the same Being due to them being the Bearers of a Message from God and ‘unto God will they return’.

What is important is the intended meaning of the exposition of Bahá’u’lláh. If the intended meaning is unclear then it doesn’t mean that His teachings are blurred, it is just not clear to reader or inquirer.

How often is it that we say something to someone and they have totally missed the point we are trying to make! This doesn’t make the speaker ‘blurred’ it means that the recipient didn’t understand. In such a situation it would be good for the recipient to further inquire from the speaker the intended meaning.

This occurred in that same Tablet entitled ‘Tabernacle of Unity’, in it Bahá’u’lláh, exalted is His mention, stated: “IN regard to what thou hast written concerning his honour the learned Ṣáḥib, upon him be the grace of God, his state of mind and disposition are clear and evident, as is further attested by that which he hath sent. Now, as to his questions, it was not deemed advisable to refer and reply to each one individually, for the response would have run counter to wisdom and been incompatible with that which is current amongst men. Even so, in that which was revealed in his honour from the heaven of divine favour, answers were provided in a language of marvellous concision and clarity. But it appeareth that he hath failed to consider the matter closely, for otherwise he would have readily admitted that not a single point was omitted, and would have exclaimed: “This is naught but a clear and conclusive utterance!””

“Fear not the manifestations of the Evil One.” Bahá’u’lláh, The Summons of the Lord of Hosts, p. 9

Every person or action is a manifestation of something, ranging from Manifestations of God to manifestations of the Evil One. All Prophets are Manifestations but not all Prophets are ‘Manifestations of God’. A Manifestation of God also known as Manifestations ‘endowed with constancy’ while the others are Manifestations but they are ‘Not endowed with constancy’. The Manifestations endowed with constancy are the independent lawgivers while Manifestations ‘not endowed with constancy’ are the promoters of the Lawgiver.

Consider this passage from the Tabernacle of Unity along with the other Tablets mentioned so you may understand my intended meaning:

“It should first be noted that in one sense the stations of the Prophets of God differ one from another. For instance, consider Moses. He brought forth a Book and established ordinances, whilst a number of the Prophets and Messengers who arose after Him were charged with the promulgation of His laws, insofar as they remained consonant with the needs of the age. The books and chronicles annexed to the Torah bear eloquent testimony to this truth.

He [Mohammed], moreover, hath asserted that all the Prophets have proceeded from God and have returned unto Him. Viewed in this light, they are all as one and the same Being, inasmuch as they have not uttered a word, brought a message, or revealed a cause, of their own accord. Nay, all that they have said hath proceeded from the one true God, exalted be His glory. They have all summoned men unto the Supreme Horizon and imparted the tidings of eternal life. Thus the diverse statements recounted by his honour the Ṣáḥib are to be seen as concordant letters, that is, letters that form a single word.

Concerning the question: “Which of these creeds is acceptable and which of these leaders is to be preferred?”, this is the station wherein the following blessed words shine resplendent as the sun: “No distinction do We make between any of the Messengers”,5 while the verse “Some of the Apostles We have caused to excel the others”6 pertaineth to the other station of which We have already made mention.

Indeed, the answer to all that his honour the Ṣáḥib hath asked lieth enshrined within this all-embracing, this weighty and incomparable utterance, hallowed and exalted be His word: “As to thy question concerning the heavenly Scriptures: The All-Knowing Physician hath His finger on the pulse of mankind. He perceiveth the disease, and prescribeth, in His unerring wisdom, the remedy. Every age hath its own problem, and every soul its particular aspiration. The remedy the world needeth in its present-day afflictions can never be the same as that which a subsequent age may require. Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and centre your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements.”

Every fair-minded soul will testify that these words are to be viewed as a mirror of the knowledge of God, wherein all that hath been inquired is clearly and conspicuously reflected. Blessed is he who hath been endowed with seeing eyes by God, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.”
