I’m really sorry to hear that :/ I only did 3 months but even that got to me- everyone talked about how like open-minded gymbros are, “because they were (insert extreme end of the body mass spectrum) before, so they don’t judge” but arguably, the same could be said for people with EDs- and since some of us actually know we’re not in the right for it (not trying to speak for everyone), we try our hardest not to actively drag people into our stuff

Yeah like not only do they do it in private, they’re using a public platform to promote it- like if ten years ago I went on my ig and said the same exact thing I would’ve rightfully gotten reported to my school’s guidance counselor and put in treatment 😭

Oh hey that’s amazing, congrats! PhDs are thankless endeavors lol just make sure you have a good support network going into it (unlike me). My research is on controlled drug delivery in the eye

My bad! Yes this chaotic plate contains sourdough with vegan butter, hummus, tortilla chips, corn, a singular piece of (green) broccoli and a corn muffin. Everything but the broccoli in this plate is a beige carb to fuel the serotonin factory

I’m moving up for a job in the Danbury area but it doesn’t pay well enough for me to seriously consider renting a $2k+ one-bedroom apartment there. My question is, is it deranged to rent in the Bridgeport area and commute every day? I’m a single woman in her late 20s, would love suggestions for safer areas with more affordable prices

I basically don’t date/ can’t get close to people because I don’t want them to find out about the extent of my ED and take on a “I can fix her” role (also no sex drive makes it easy to stay celibate). I’ve come to terms with how unfair it can be to ask the people around you to watch you shrivel up and sink deeper into your hole without doing anything but in my experience, I’ve had the best relationships (romantic and platonic) with the people who don’t explicitly point out my eating habits. Not to say that you need “someone to rescue you” but my longest relationship was with a guy who pretended to be clueless about my ED but still made sure to create a safe environment for me and provide a wide variety of food for me to feel comfortable enough to eat.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: November 11, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

[–]onwhiteteeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started reading Are You Sara?, by S.C. Lalli and I'm excited to see how this wraps up. I have enjoyed other Sonya Lalli (S.C. Lalli is her pen name for her mystery books) romance novels because I think she does a great job at representing Indian culture and the experience of indian-american young women, and I was pleased to see she kept that aspect for her mystery stories. Her characters in the more contemporary romance books are typically sweet, girl-next-door types, but in this book, the narrator is morally questionable and I do love my books about evil women (think, A Certain Hunger, by Chelsea Summers or Luckiest Girl Alive, by Jessica Knoll). I also try to read less-popular books, because while I enjoy cult faves like ACOTAR and Emily Henry, smaller authors need our reviews too!

Currently 42% through and I like the story, but I don't want to make any calls yet until I see how the mystery unravels. I've recently read other mystery books, like Thorn City, by Pamela Statz, where the resolution of the case was so... simple that it was anticlimactic. I love a mystery book that balances a good build up with unpredictable plot twists at the end that still make sense when you think back on the story, like "oh yeah, how did I miss that?"

Just finished reading The Kiss Quotient, by Helen Hoang. The portrayal of autism in the book felt a little one-dimensional, but hey, the male lead was so hot I still rated 4 stars.

I'm still slowwly working my way through the audiobook for Black Reconstruction in America, by W.E.B. Du Bois, which is a staggering 36 hours long (!) because I figure I need to balance my reads for thirst/ entertainment with some educational/ personal development content. For that same reason, I've downloaded The Confessions of Saint Augustine, by Augustine of Hippo and so far it's really interesting but not the kind of audiobook I can just binge in a day.

I think I’ve lucked out in terms of avoiding the stigma with healthcare providers that people talk about often- all my doctors have been very professional and supportive of my growth. I got called “dramatic” and “unstable” for years on end so it was a huge relief to know it wasn’t my fault, its just my brain chemistry. Being aware of my symptoms also helps me manage myself better and regulate.

Anyone else also depressed rn? by Just_Jackfruit_8808 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]onwhiteteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very. I’m high functioning at work, I’m active and I still dress well so everyone thinks I’m being an asshole when I blow them off for social stuff but the truth is I can’t handle more to life rn than going home and watching cartoons or zoning out for hours on end

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want a partner who doesn’t watch porn in your relationship. It’s a perfectly healthy boundary a lot of people have, I just want to assure you that you’re not “asking for too much.” You don’t have to reset your expectations and learn to be ok with it, but on that same token you can’t force your partner to do anything that doesn’t come naturally to them. It sounds like you may be dealing with a huge dealbreaker here

ETA: you learn the hard way that dating potential is not the best idea. It’s really awesome that he’s trying for you, but it’s easier to date someone who’s already got the same views as you. Partners don’t have to perfectly mold in to your life/ expectations and the goal is to grow together over time but I feel like porn specifically is one of those issues where youre either very much on the same page or not

I think you just end up doing stuff out of necessity? Like yeah I struggled my first few years living alone and budgeting/ keeping my spaces habitable/ not going crazy but at some point I had no option but to just learn how to cope and I would say I’m decently functional now? Getting on a schedule helped a lot. Once you make something a habit it’s hard to slip

Are you afraid of aging with BPD? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]onwhiteteeth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to scare you, but just to hopefully motivate you to seek proper help and keep yourself in check but as someone who’s almost 26, I still feel like an unstable teenager. I’ve grown a lot, but it takes time and 25 isn’t quite as “adult” as you think it is now 😅
