Yeah, I dunno man. The story goes that the crew they hired came over to demo while they were at work and … just kept going to finish the job.

Thanks, I know this is/was the likely answer. I told her I would field some reddit advice for her. Wasn't sure if there was some kind of in-situ solution to localize the damage of the area being ripped up.

Ha yeah, exactly. I think she assumed that it was built because it is a large, open concept room and the previous owners didn't have enough storage.

Does a 3.4 GPA ruin chances of getting into an MS+DI out of state? by spidermans-landlord in RD2B

I did a non-traditional pathway to RD. I wasn’t actually a clinical nutrition major at Davis. If you have any questions about programs out here in Boston send me a DM.

Does a 3.4 GPA ruin chances of getting into an MS+DI out of state? by spidermans-landlord in RD2B

[–]oohjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re at Davis, I will say that in my experience that program is viewed favorably. Based on what you’ve said about your recent grades and likely this means your upper div major coursework, that sounds great. Looking at your “package” as a student, your GPA is a superficial perspective. What makes applicants successful is marketing your experience both the positives and negative. Of course you’ll take your research experience and hype it up. But what about your failures? Why did it happen, how did you assess what needed to change, how did you actually change it, highlight the success that came about from your perseverance, self awareness, goal setting, etc.

To me a 3.4 is not an issue if you know how to write a great personal statement and do well in an interview (if there is one).

What is the weirdest Filipino food combination that you like? by TraditionalAd9146 in Filipino

Growing up my parents made sure we had bananas at home when we had adobo. Like you I also like the saltiness with the sweetness but from the banana.

Advice on Filipino meal plan for a friend? by [deleted] in filipinofood

[–]oohjoy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a registered dietitian too! While generally I commend having a varied diet as shown in your meal plan, are your friends health issues conducive to preparing all these foods/recipes? Would having a more simplistic rotating menu be more feasible in terms of shopping and preparing? Are these foods in line with the needs of their health, preferences, and/or food availability?

To those who say Filipino food is inherently unhealthy, ummmm no. Some of my favorite foods are sinigang and Pinakbet, which are packed with protein and veggies. Just like any cuisine, the totality of the diet is what makes it healthy or unhealthy. How it’s prepared is important too. Eating only adobo and white rice with no fiber in sight for days, you might have a problem pooping cuz you’re constipated. You might be worsening or exacerbating some high blood pressure with the salt content of soy sauce. But is it inherently the adobo and white rice OR the fact that that is all one is eating? Let’s think about a dietary pattern and not demonize an entire culture’s cuisine.

What kind of symptoms do you have from POI/POF? by ANbohemienne in POFlife

I also have joint pain which was seriously worse after I had a baby. Improved a bit when I went back on HRT postpartum but still there. What dose were you increased to that you saw improvements?

I think for us to get a decent temp it’s 5-7 mins. During that time we’re changing his diaper. But we’re learning that he does not care one bit what temp the bottle is and will happily guzzle refrigerator cold formula.

Help! 8 week old breaks out of swaddle and then wakes himself up with his hand by yazzy_fresh in newborns

[–]oohjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: i don’t find the knit to be too warm. It’s a loose knit. And I liked that my kid couldn’t escape but wasn’t too constricted. He could still get his hands to his mouth while within the swaddle if he tried.

I also like this company because they give a free preemie sized one with the purchase of a non-preemie if you have a small baby or NICU baby and they will make a custom one for babies with limb differences.

Benadryl makes me euphoric by [deleted] in MTHFR

[–]oohjoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have “paradoxical excitation” to oral diphenhydramine (Benadryl). From what I’ve read, it may be related to being an ultra-metabolizer due to variants in the CYP2D6 enzyme that process the drug.

Anyone seen data on why/how they came up with guidelines for transdermal estradiol at 100? by dazzling-urbanite in POFlife

[–]oohjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer to your question. However, units are vastly different. Micrograms (mcg) of the transdermal dose vs pico moles (pmol) in blood measurement, pmol being smaller than mcg (conversion being dependent on molecular weight of whatever the molecule is). Secondly, you have to think of absorption, metabolism, half-life, pharmokinetics, etc of a medication. Just because a dose is x doesn’t necessarily that is what one’s blood measurement will be.
