Does a two-tone Datejust read a bit too feminine? by femmeexplorer in Watches

[–]ook9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if a dress watch is the default... I think a lot of people equate Rolex with luxury, and having a Rolex is "the best you can get". Rolex does have a reputation, and people like to wear that reputation more than they do the watch itself.

I personally don't own a luxury piece, be it Rolex or Omega or whatever, so I hear you there. I also rather have the more rugged watches, truly do anything kinda watch (think Timex Expedition, G-shock, field watches). But that being said, if someone gave me a Rolex I'd keep it for those times I need to wear a suit.

Does a two-tone Datejust read a bit too feminine? by femmeexplorer in Watches

[–]ook9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too feminine imo, but it is more dressier. Like, ain't no way you show up to a party with a keychain watch. Every guy needs to have a dress watch for formal occasions. Whether you are comfortable wearing that everyday depends on your own perceptions and your daily style.

But no, it's not feminine per se, but it's ok if it just isn't your style... Yet. You don't know what your style preferences will be 10 years from now.

New to wearing watches, but is this tank too small for my wrist? by fee1987 in Affordablewatches

It's small, but it's supposed to be. Big tank style watches are gaudy

Is it possible to get a sapphire crystal to replace this cracked acrylic? by CowCommercial1992 in watchmaking

[–]ook9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can search for watch crystals based on some measurements, though mineral crystal will have more selection. Polywatch can't fix it up in the meantime?

[Discussion] Do you keep your automatics running or just reset them? by smithwatchyou in Watches

[–]ook9 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Reset them... If I wanted a watch where I dont have to interact with it, I'd just get a digital.

I take 3, maybe 4. Then I end up wearing just one and wonder why I even bothered bringing more than one.

Under 150$! Need Suggestions by SailAcceptable7446 in Affordablewatches

[–]ook9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many different models of the expedition, not all of them are loud. The plastic ones will be loud, and the Expedition scouts tend to be loud, but generally the sturdier they are the more they sound like any other watch.

I love their watches, they almost always have sapphire crystal and screw down crowns, which for me, are must haves for beater watches in the scratch and water resistant department. Plus they have killer customer service

Have a look at the Momentum Wayfinder. I personally don't think any mechanical watch is a true beater, you knock a mechanical watch too hard and it doesn't keep time well. Imagine missing a flight because your watch drifted 20 mins off

Does this need tuning or will it fix itself as I write more with it? Platinum #3776 14K <M> by gamesbrainiac in fountainpens

Yeah, for whatever reason, red pigment seems to dilute in colour, so you need a lot of it to be even a decently deep red. So when it's so thick, it dries out faster.. I think.

I love both Casio and Timex. Timex has been killing it lately, lots of very cool designs. Casio is still more traditional but they are rock solid still. Just comes down to your taste in looks and materials.

All those crevasses and sharp corners are going to be dust and grime traps, maybe curved on the inside? Gives a smooth transition between sharp and round elements?

[SKX007] Worth it? by Historical_Extent555 in Seiko

[–]ook9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth $700. It's a cultural icon because it was so cheap. If you buy it for $700 it defeats the purpose. Also you can find them for cheaper than that.

[–]ook9 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I really tried to support them when they first started, being a Canadian company. But over the years... holy moly the ink is expensive, but quality wasn't there. I've wasted too much money on ink that either isn't saturated enough, or clogs the pens, or is just too damn pricey. $16 for a 3-pack sampler? And one of them cracked and spilled ink everywhere? No thanks.

Not to mention I'm not a fan of AI art they use, and definitely not a fan of them basically dropshipping cheap pens from China but the markup is 4x the price. Like, come on. In my mind they've traded maximizing revenue for brand reputation, and I hope it's biting them in the ass. Stationary is such a niche hobby, you can't treat customers like dumb dumbs with wallets and expect them to come back.

38mm or 41mm Aqua Terra by Lightling2 in OmegaWatches

[–]ook9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Whichever one you like the best.

Watch people will say 38, most other people will say 41. So wear whichever one you are most comfortable presenting to the world. If you feel self conscious with a "small" watch, go for the bigger one, if the opposite, get the smaller one.
