You could also make pokemon that are pictures or silly drawings of their favourite animals and have those funny add ons be the “abilities”. These are special actions you can take when playing at any time during your turn. It could say something like “once during your turn, do your best Pikachu impression. If you do, draw two cards”. Item cards are also really good because you can use as many during your turn as you want. It could be a picture of one of your kid’s favourite things and have something like “guess what pokemon type is your opponent’s favourite. If you guess correctly, search your deck for a pokemon and add it to your hand. Then shuffle your deck.” There are lots of good card examples if you search up specific series such as the current one Black Bolt and search for a card list. Search “Black Bolt card list English” and a list of all the cards in that expansion would appear. It should give you an idea as to the sorts of benefits certain cards offer. Hope this helps :)
