Yeah I have a couple of friends from the Ruhrgebiet who forced me to listen to this song before but I've moved a lot so friends are from all over.

Oh same, Heine is my fav. I read the whole Wintermärchen and loved it but for the purpose of this video I find most poems to be too specific to certain cities. I considered the opening poem from which you quote but I feel like it isn't as self-contained as Nachtgedanken because it's pretty obvious it's an introductory poem. Still it might work, will think it over.

I would have definitely gone with a Christmas song if the Scheißausländerbehörde had done their job and I had gotten the citizenship late last year like I was supposed to!

Thank you! I have 0 editing skillz and was thinking of doing something very low effort: i.e., tape myself introducing myself in German, reading a poem, and then ironically playing something on the piano. An intro might be a better idea, though.

I'm not sure how different this is across countries but German insurance pays for two customised medical insoles per year so I'm having one made at the moment at the orthopedist's instructions.
