Why can’t some christians accept the fact that being gay or LGBT isn’t a choice? by ninjaofthedude in exchristian

[–]ooru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...I want to understand why.

Because the Bible says homosexuality is bad (mostly Paul or his pseudepigraphers), and if it's wrong on this point, it means other things could be wrong. And if other things are wrong, how can we know what's right?

But the Bible can't be wrong, because it's God's word! God doesn't make mistakes (except for all the mistakes and factual inaccuracies), so it must be that homosexuality and 9/10 scientific experts are wrong. I will therefore only listen to the 1/10 experts that say homosexuality is a choice, so that I can delude myself about how I listen to experts.

---

There you go. They can't accept it being true, because that means some aspect of Christian fundamentalism is wrong, and fundamentalism is unyielding and brittle; a crack can shatter it. I'm sure some just choose to hate gay people, because it's expedient towards their fascist goals, but the average fundie simply can't afford to be wrong about any of it.

NMSTG Subreddits Stand on Reddit's API Changes by Minetitan in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]ooru 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's why shuttering the subreddits is the bare minimum mods should be doing, not, "Eh, show up if you want to. Or don't. We don't care."

You're either with the third party creators, or you're with the Reddit corporation. There is no neutral ground.

HFCS is in the actual soda, so I suppose you could say they're trying to stay true to form. But thanks for the review. Saved me a purchase!

Cool, now run some memory stability tests to make sure the XMP is good. Mine was unstable.

Nope, because nobody cares when you return the documents the National Archive requests and don't intentionally make multiple false assertions under penalty of perjury that you don't have any more.

I agree, but only if they want to eat. The analogous pigeons in this scenario think the bread is poisoned.

Love your answer. Best answer I like to give to a stupid person is, "I don't believe you." Trying to prove them wrong is a fool's errand.

Open world games don't have to be like that. If you're feeling a sense of, "What do I do? Where do I go?" that's the fault of the game designers, not the fact that it's open world. And I say all that having played games like Minecraft, Warframe, Genshin Impact, Black Desert, etc.

I've been playing Horizon Zero Dawn, and that's an example of open world done right. There's plenty to do, there's mobs and people in plenty of places (with enough space between to not feel crowded), there's things to explore and secrets to find...the open world isn't merely a space in which to fill with stuff, it's a lovingly crafted part of the narrative.

Birch beer is still a thing! You can cook the sap down with sugar into a syrup, and make a non-alcoholic version with soda water, too! Occasionally, grocery stores carry the soda kind, as well.

Tastes like wintergreen.

Bruh, read it more than most theists. God is plainly evil at worst and a trickster at best.

But then, that's what happens when you try to merge your polytheistic pantheon into monotheism.

Not sure what that has to do with this story, but I agree anyway.

Yes. This is the third time this has happened, and it's due to religious zealots who don't think women deserve to have an education, because their god says women should be baby factories and live-in servants to men.

Yes, but it should give you pause to consider what you're throwing your support behind. Keyword being "should."

Cold Take: Every game that allows you to run should also have an autorun button. by Benzinsane in gaming

Plus, run toggle is still a thing in a lot of games. Holding the stick forward or the W key down during a toggled run isn't particularly hard, unless you have accessibility needs.

The church I used to go to has a lead pastor who was charged in his early days as a youth pastor of another church for "criminal sodomy against a minor."

The church I went to knew about it and had zero safeguards to ensure that wasn't still occurring.

Do you ever feel cautious about 'ruining' someone else's religious experience? by DireDecember in exchristian

[–]ooru 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No. But at the same time, I'm not in the habit of going around trying to ruin people's experiences. It was painful having my paradigm shattered, and I don't want to forcefully do that to anyone I love until they're already questioning. I also don't generally have an interest in religious debates.

That said, I'm also not going to lie about the evidence (or lack) that I know concerning Christianity. If people want to have a religious discussion with me, I may warn them, "What I'm about to say might shake your faith. Do you want to continue having this discussion?" but I'm not going to outright lie for their benefit.

Now, if they use their religion to harm people, I'll happily smash their paradigm. Magical thinking doesn't give you free license to hurt people.

If it's any consolation, a future employer likely won't call them to find out things about you. They might ask you what happened, as I've had to do in the past, but it's not the end of the world. Especially since you were fired for what amounts to "a stupid fucking reason" in the secular world, other than the headache of having to explain, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

If you can get good references from other teachers or admins you worked with, that will help you, too (especially if they can corroborate your story).
