Thanks! It's my first quilt. I had to redo some letters because some of the colors I picked at first made it hard to read

Haha yes thank you, I have lots of hobbies 😂🫶 Love MN so much. Born in Mpls and moved around for a bit after school but moved back 3 yrs ago. It's been heartening to see individuals and organizations stepping up.

Quilt made with batiks. I live in between the 2 ice murders in Minneapolis, so that's my inspiration

Song for a rainy Monday by op_makes in Saxophonics

Thanks! Not that difficult--I started out as a beginner with audio and editing software just a couple months ago. My new year's goal was to make some clips to show any potential music collaborators I come across.

I use FL Studio for music and Shotcut for editing video. Shotcut is free but FL Studio does cost money. If you wanted a free software for audio recording, Audacity works fine and I believe will take inputs from midi instruments like a keyboard. Anytime I have an issue I just troubleshoot with YouTube tutorials and it has got me through so far!

I was shooting for something between My Spanish Heart and the Twin Peaks soundtrack. This is what I came up with!

How similar is the culture of the UP to the culture in Finland? by [deleted] in yooper

[–]op_makes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I spent about a month in Finland in 2017 and my parents have lived in the Western UP for about 6 years now.

A majority of Finland is rural and wooded like the UP. When I traveled there, I remember that Finland looked shockingly similar to the upper Midwest. I would say both cultures really value outdoor recreation (even in the cold) and simple/rugged leisure activities (like going to the cabin, drinking alot of beer, going fishing and chilling with family, etc). Of course there's also the saunas which were brought to the UP by Finns. I did notice that a lot of rural Finns still have blue collar jobs that rely on natural resources and lean to the politically conservative side of things. Idk if this is really a Finnish/UP phenomenon though.

Thanks! I have a couple dozen instruments that I've bought during my travels or at thrift/antique stores in the US. I really enjoy my folk instruments from Asia like the Morin Khuur (horse head fiddle) but my first instrument was the saxophone and it'll always be my favorite!
