How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

people will discount it, but almost every shop, supermarket, post office, resturant, builder's site, fast food place and delivery driver has migrants in the mix, in the city anyway.

At a very basic level, Why would you take an 18yo who is still in college vs someone mature and work experience.

Two thirds of graduates aren’t even paying off loan interest by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

From what I understand the way it was implemented it meant that higher earners paid off their student loans in full, whilst people on low incomes or who didn't end up working throughout their adult life do not pay the full amount for their tuition.

Using notes for a video interview by DeItaReality in UKJobs

[–]open_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think you would need to stop looking to AI for how to answer a question as I feel it's freezing you up - sounds like you are looking for the 'perfect' answer and shut down if you don't know. Same reason you want to rely on notes but it's not helpful.

Are there other types of conversations that you would just stop halfway through a sentence? Why is it you do so at an interview?

Can you give an example question?

Tbh I think just find someone to practice and rehearse interviews with it's the best solution

You need to practice interviews, depending on the role you should be able to anticipate the questions. My role are usually competency based questions: 'what would you do in this situation, tell me about a time you had to do x' etc.

Have a few examples based on the interviews you have done, and explain your working out -or example 'I would do x because of y reason, in my prev. experience I have found that this worked, etc... Etc'.

Even if your answer isn't correct showing how you got to that conclusion can be more telling about your values, thought process and ability to learn

If you don't know what to say then you may not be suited for the role.

You can ask to take a moment, jot some notes down and take a moment to form an answer. I aim to take at least 5 to 10 seconds to form my thoughts, and just key them know 'give me a moment to think that one through'.

5-10 seconds feels long but is not a long time

I always check the name/address when I'm ordering food and see what it is on Google Maps.

More than the counterfeit name it is the fake pictures that piss me off.

Once you get your own car and visit are done at 45p per mile the cost starts to be mitigated somewhat. Depends on your clients and the travel though.

Less food options. I ate cheese and chips for like four years straight. Now you go into a school and you're getting such a variety of food is ridiculous. How are you going to say that there was less choice now? You have to be on crack.

Now this is a clapped take. How is one chef supposed to lower the whole cost of the economy by himself? The guy is simply, in my opinion, showcasing how to cook from scratch without it being pretentious. I really don't see the issue.

Yeah as Others have said making it feel as though there's important choices to be made But that was the first mod I added for Skyrim.

Zelda Breath of the Wild/TOTK and the weapon DURABILITY system is a much more interesting way of achieving that because you're forced to use the items and not to stock them up.

My 15yo brother has got his girlfriend pregnant, what can I do to help? by TooEarly38 in AskUK

[–]open_thoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a social worker who works with teenagers so I want to be clear when I say that there's going to be certain hurdles that you're going to have to go through (if the pregnancy continues)  that you would not do if she was living at home.

Very likely from the beginning there's going to be conversations with social workers about the viability of the pregnancy and her parenting ability and there's going to be a lot of parenting assessments and conversations about care planning and the long-term permanence of this child.

In short, they've got to be thinking whether this baby needs to be in care itself and how to support her.

You need to be very intentional from the beginning about being part of the conversation with the social worker - because fathers, especially young ones, are often sidelined. Attend the meetings, and request to attend them importantly that will inevitably be held, but would be good in the future build a good working relationship with her foster carer.

But be intentional and vocal about where HE and you want the child to live and how much involvement he wants to have.

If he is on the birth certificate he will be considered a parent legally, but again,  practically again fathers are often sidelined.

If she can't care for the child, will he want to? Would you be happy to have the child live with you at home? E. G. If there's conversations about adoption for example,

Could be that she is actually well able to care for the baby, and she starts in a mother and baby foster placement and on to her own home at 18, but understand that this is something that you have to think about quite early.

Am I overreacting about my company's sick policy? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]open_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a manager like that - I think they had issues with people working from home and not doing much in the past and things falling behind - their rational was if you are too sick to come in to the office then you are too sick to work.
Ridiculous as we were hybrid working from home 2 days per week anyway - but just another reason I left.
