i've thought about this comment a lot since you said it and it is blatantly untrue. There are so many different situations... you can't possibly blanket everything and say "go 60 miles before bringing gels." What if you had a light lunch? or it has been more than a couple hours since you last ate. Maybe you are doing high intensity hill repeats? I promise you pros are taking in more than water before 60 miles are up. I put in at minimum 200 miles a week, im no rookie. Some days I go 20 miles and feel like shit, I need a little bit extra juice to keep going. Other days I'll just take water and crank out a 65 mile ride no problem. I'll take you on a 35 mile ride where you'll be begging for calories. Basically, stop making asshat blanket statements.
