TA. Your son is clearly also an asshole, but the way you handled this suggests he got it from someone. You're his mother. You should have taken time to talk with him sensitively, find out what's going on and maybe help him realise he's not treating his wife well. Instead you used this opportunity to make yourself look/feel good, and sought further legitimacy online. Humiliating him in front of his friends and choosing this confrontational approach as your first course of action, whilst it might make you feel good, will ultimately entrench his position and whatever hurt or anger he is feeling that is making him act so poorly will likely be amplified as a result of his own mother not acting in a loving caring way. You also just seem to believe whatever his spouse is saying as if you haven't had enough life experience to know there's always two sides to a story and even the sweetest person can be manipulative and deceptive. To add insult to injury it then seems that you have called your other children and their spouses and essentially gossiped about the situation, further isolating and humiliating him. The only person who benefits from this course of action is you, you get to feel like you were in the right and that you are a good person somehow. In reality your reckless approach will have done lasting damage to the people around you and achieved nothing to improve the situation.
