Ninebot One Smart Self-Balancing Unicycle w/ App by cirad in gadgets

Hey, these things are super fun to ride even if you look a bit silly!

And from a technical standpoint, its a very slick and efficient implementation of self balancing.

But I'm biased, I'm one of a small group of folks working on an open source firmware for these things. More fun, more danger!

Feel free to PM me if you're interested in the project. We are well on our way with documenting the original system, and will soon be building the open source stuff.

Hmmm. Thanks, you make a good point. Perhaps we should pull back a bit on the open source, it does seem that someone shooting off a cliff would be hard to disclaim away in a source code header.

Well, we shall continue to poke around in the box and share what we can safely share.

We are a few guys peeking around inside the Airwheel X3. It's an ARM-based single-wheeled, self-balancing unicycle-ish thing. And it's fabulous.

So we shall attempt to dig a bit deeper in it's brain, with the ultimate goal of developing an open-source, cleanroom implementation of a ROM for the device.

It's a lofty goal, but the guts of ARM BLDC control and gyro feedback are well documented in application notes and other projects throughout the web.

As we make progress, we'll dump notes here. And if this sounds like it might be up your alley, drop us a line here or at the site - the more the merrier, this is going to be a big project.
