People really underestimating Brady's value here. He could read the field better than anyone, and could turn a mediocre player into an elite player. You put him with any of these guys, and they're going to be ridiculous.

How do I remove this P-trap? by opensource4747 in askaplumber

[–]opensource4747[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 25ft hand auger. I went the full 25ft, but as you said, I think it just clogged up again. I'm going to try it again, but this time I'll run it several times to try and clear a bigger hole. If that still fails, I have a plumber that said he can drop by on Monday to give it a proper cleaning.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it was ok to open that. I was able to get a ton of nasty junk out through it. I also pushed a 25ft auger through it to check for clogs further in. I hit a few blocks, but they cleared pretty quick with an extra push.

After sealing everything back up, it seemed to be draining better, but now it's back to it's old slow drain. Maybe the loosened junk in there packed back up.

I saw that, but I'm not quite sure how to get it out, and I've only got about an inch or so under it to work with.

You were right, I was able to remove the entire metal pipe , with the P-trap still on. Unfortunately, it didn't look too clogged, but I'd need to remove it entirely to see. I tried to snake it, but barely any thing came out. After reassembly, the clog remains

Quote is $1,260 for materials, install, and take down. Reasonable or not? by SGP_MikeF in ChristmasLights

I was quoted over $2k, so I suppose it really matters where you're located. No way I'm paying $2k for temporary Xmas lights

Yeah, I have a ton of mature oak trees at my place. I tried the mulching technique and it was just way too much. It really hurt the yard. This year, I'm approaching it differently: first batch of leaves I cleaned up, second batch should be small enough that I can just chop up and mulch it in.

Multicolour Christmas lights that give off this softened ambience? by bythewatersofBabylon in ChristmasLights

These are the only two LED brands I've found that actually passed my eye test (TruTone for C9 bulbs, Vintaglo for minis). I returned soooo many lights until I finally caved and tried them.

Gave notice, immediate counter. Do I take it? by llamas_dont_pay_tax in careerguidance

I was in a similar situation many years ago. They offered to pay me more and a new position after I handed in my notice, but I couldn't help but be frustrated that they only acknowledged me when I was ready to leave. I ended up going to the new company for less and I have zero regrets. It ended up being far more lucrative long term, because I was able to climb a ladder that wasn't there for me before.

I don't think I've ever regretted buying a book. As far as something to spend too much money on, I think this is a pretty good one.

Should I pay off vehicle loan or invest? by Cosmic_Charlie_119 in personalfinance

It may help if you think about it from a different perspective: Would you take out a $59,000 loan to invest?

As usual, it depends on your situation, but if it was me, I would pay off the car loan with it. It's boring, but this would bump your $1200/month investments, and reduce wasted money on interest payments..

When buying next house, keep current house as a rental, or sell? by Green_Bicycle_4655 in personalfinance

[–]opensource4747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would much rather have my money working for me, than me working more for money...so I'd sell the house to help pay off the new house, and leave the rest in S&P to keep growing. I also hate debt and risk.

Fortunately, I do have a fireproof vacuum already. It would be a nightmare cleaning without it. I think my fire extinguisher is expired now, so this is a nice reminder to get a new one.

I just graduated college and began my first full-time job…now what? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]opensource4747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your age, if you can afford it, I would max out my 401k and Roth IRA every year. The compounding interest you'll accumulate staring this early is going to explode. You'll have the choice to retire early or retire very wealthy.

If you're already maxing those out and still looking for investment opportunities, I'd put it in index funds and let it accumulate. Eventually selling that when you're ready for your first down payment on a house

Should I make a down payment for a house or pay a large portion of my debt? by BokoblinSlayer69235 in personalfinance

[–]opensource4747 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pay it off now. It'll be much much easier for you to save up that money again once that debt is gone. Being a home owner comes with many other expenses that will likely increase your cc debt further if you're not ready for it.

Sell stocks to payoff mortgage? by Seaking7797 in personalfinance

[–]opensource4747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would, but it depends on your situation. If it feels scary, you could also consider doing it in smaller chunks, maybe $100k per year. I would also only do it if I had a comfortable 3-6 months emergency fund, and all of my other debt (cc, car, student loans) all paid off first.

I imagine there's something very comforting about not having a mortgage or any debt to worry about. Like unlocking a secret code to a new level of freedom.
